SharingChange Spotlight: MTE’s member-supported SharingChange grant helps fund Autism Career Training (ACT) in Franklin, TN, a therapy and vocational program that bridges the gap between the traditional school system and workplace for young adults with intellectual disabilities. ACT’s enriching curriculum is helping 26-year-old Killian train for his dream job. “Because he loves hand tools, they created a wall where he can learn how to restock tools just like at Home Depot,” his mother Margot Cairnes said. Among the first four families involved with ACT, the Cairnes had no idea what it would come to mean to them. “It’s changed the quality of life for all of us,” Margot said.

Thank you to NewsChannel 5 Nashville for sharing this story. Our vegetation management specialists and contract crews volunteered at Stones River National Battlefield & Cemetery last week during the annual Saluting Branches event. We are proud to show our support for U.S. troops by making their final resting place a safe and beautiful environment for all who visit.
Organized by the nonprofit organization, Saluting Branches: Arborists for Veteran Remembrance, our team worked to help keep the trees healthy through pruning and selected removal. MTE is honored to participate in this event each year.

SharingChange Spotlight: MTE members are helping to continue a tradition for Tennessee’s rural youth. A SharingChange grant helps fund awards for the Tennessee State Junior Dairy Show. Held annually since the 1950s, the show provides competition and recognition at the state level for 4-H Club members enrolled in the dairy project. More important than awards, however, are the life skills learned from the experience, said Ed Davenport, a co-op member who serves as treasurer of the Tennessee Junior Dairy Show Foundation.
“I can’t tell you how much we appreciate the ongoing support from SharingChange and MTE that makes it possible for Tennessee’s junior dairy show tradition to live on,” Davenport said. “It’s been a great partnership.”
