🧧Chúc mừng năm mới! Kính chúc mọi người một năm mới vui vẻ, khỏe mạnh, và thịnh vượng. 🧧
Translation: “Happy Lunar New Year! Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous year.”

In Vietnamese culture, the dragon is one of the 12 animals in the zodiac cycle, and each animal represents a year in the lunar calendar. The dragon is considered a powerful and auspicious symbol, and its presence during the lunar new year is believed to bring good luck, prosperity, and success.

🐲🐉The dragon is associated with strength, wisdom, and nobility. It is seen as a symbol of power and authority, and it represents the Emperor in Vietnamese culture. The dragon is also believed to have control over water, which is essential for agriculture and life in Vietnam.

During the lunar new year celebrations, dragon dances and performances are common. These colorful and dynamic dragon dances are believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune for the year ahead. The dragon’s vibrant and energetic movements are also thought to bring positive energy and excitement to the festivities.

Overall, the dragon zodiac holds great significance in Vietnamese culture during the lunar new year. It symbolizes strength, prosperity, and good luck, and its presence is believed to bring blessings and positive energy for the year ahead.

FUN FACT: I was born in the year of the Dragon. 🐲 ‘88 bby!

Stylist pro-tip: if your phone camera is picking up too much light exposure and you’re having issues bringing that dimension through in its truest form, particularly on darker hair that naturally reflects more light — tap that screen and drag that little sun setting down!

That should bring down your exposure and give you a much better depth-to-light ratio. (Second photo unadjusted exposure, first & third photo adjusted exposure)

Did you find this helpful? 🌟

WHAT CAUSES BRASSY HAIR?
When hair is lightened or bleached during the coloring process, the melanin in your hair is diluted. The darker the hair, the more melanin present. The lighter the hair, you guessed it - less melanin. This process is called oxidation.

As the desired color or toner fades over time, you may experience the dreaded "brassiness". This can happen as color fades and underlying pigments are exposed, typically resulting in a warmer shift in tone.

Hair dye is made up of three color pigments -- red, blue and yellow. ❤️💙💛

Blue color molecules fade much faster, leaving red and yellow color molecules to show through. On darker tones, these colors can create an orange hue. This is also why ash tones fade much faster than neutral and warm tones, for all my ash blonde girlies out there! This is why I like to recommend a toner appointment anywhere from 4-6 weeks after and in between blonding and blonde maintenance appointments. 🩶

You can also wash your hair in ice cold water for color longevity purposes…. But let’s be real, who really wants to do that? 🤣🥶

LONG STORY SHORT: Hair will always fade warm. No matter how light you are. Even if you’re 100% naturally silver/white/gray, you could still be a victim of hard or well water, which causes naturally silver/white/gray hair to “yellow”. The elements man. It just is what it is, but that’s why you have me bestie! We’ll combat brassiness together 💃🏻😌😎

What do you do to keep your hair from getting brassy?! Comment down below!

It’s never easy when a long time client moves away 😭 I’ve been seeing Jess for at leeeeast 7 years now, and although I’m so happy for her and her new adventure abroad, I’m still sad to see her go🥲

So of course we had to get in one more bleach & tone before she’s outta here! ✈️

Best wishes & safe travels my love. See you when you come back to visit! 🩷

Imagine for a second, if every day other people got to decide your work (as a hairstylist and independent salon owner) pay based upon your looks, your personality, your ability to check off every box of THAT individual person? And every day, you made a different amount. Every person has varying checklists as to what they believe constitutes great service and what they believe qualifies for a larger tip.

This is why RHS has made the shift to eliminate gratuity. This goes hand-in-hand with hourly based pricing, because clients know exactly what they’ll be paying without having to consider tipping and stylists (specifically independent stylists) don’t have to go through that awkward moment at check out. (Indie stylists, you know exactly what I’m talking about!🤣🫠)

~A LITTLE HISTORY LESSON ~
(Because I’m a nerd. 🤓)
DID YOU KNOW❓
The practice of tipping in the United States can be traced back to the post-Civil War era, when newly emancipated African Americans entered the service industry. Many former slaves were forced to work in low-paying jobs with little or no wages, relying on tips to survive. This created a system where tipping was used to subsidize employers’ low wages, particularly for Black workers. Tipping became a way to reinforce racial hierarchies and discriminatory practices.
Even after slavery ended, racial segregation and discrimination persisted, and tipping practices continued to perpetuate these inequities. Racial biases influenced tipping behaviors, with Black service workers often receiving lower tips than their white counterparts, even when providing the same level of service.
Today, tipping continues to have complex implications on workers’ livelihoods and reinforces wage disparities. Service workers in the United States, particularly in industries like restaurants and hair salons, often rely on tips to supplement their low base wages. This reliance on tips can create financial instability. Studies have shown that tipped workers, especially women and people of color, are more vulnerable to poverty and economic insecurity.

Questions? Comments? I love hearing what you all think about these new systems in place ♥️

All love,
Nikki
