Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year

As we prepare for the return of our students we offer the following reminders:

Student Schedules:

Student schedules will become available late next week. Students should note that we have made adjustments to PREP which will now be embedded in all classes on Wednesday as a time for remediation and intervention. Students will no longer be assigned to independent PREP groups and there will not be a PREP rotation/block change.

New Student Orientation:

We will host an orientation session for students new to LHS. As previously communicated, students can select a time to participate. There will be two session on Tuesday, August 13. Sessions will be held at 10:00 AM & 2:00 PM. Students can register at: https://forms.gle/QiEYpKYGx9djr9Hb8

Open House:

You are invited to our Open House on August 19 from 4:00-6:00PM. You have a chance to walk your schedule, meet some staff and interact with a number of our booster and support groups.

School Meals:

Students will eat during their block 3 class. Lunch shifts will be communicated to students on the first day of school. Information about school meals, prices and financial assistance for free and reduced programs can be found at: https://www.fcpsnutrition.com

Student Allergies Alert:

We have several students with allergies to ingredients such as Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Soy, Lentils, Sesame and Chickpeas. Reactions to these allergens can range from mild to extremely life threatening. We want all students to feel safe at school and here are some ways to help support that:

Students will be encouraged to wash their hands and/or use hand sanitizer upon their arrival to the cafeteria. Sanitizers are available in the cafeteria.
Students should not share or trade food items during their lunch.
There will be a nut-free table in the cafeteria.
Some classrooms will have restrictions on food containing allergens. Teachers and students will be trained on more specific protocols regarding allergens as they relate to students enrolled in those classes. A letter will be sent to the classes trained on these protocols.

Transportation:

Students should use the FCPS site to locate their bus stop, bus number and pick-up/drop-off time. This is available after August 10 at: https://www.fcps.org/transportation/bus-stop-information-online

Students who drive to school should look for communication during the first week of school to apply for their parking permit.

Parent drop-off: if you plan to drive your child to school, please plan to arrive early as traffic picks up after 7:10 and students not in class at 7:30 are considered late to school. LHS doors open for students at 7:00AM. Student drop-off will occur at the main entrance of the school. Look for more information specific to traffic pattern closer to the start of school.

Fall Athletics:

Athletics begins on August 14 with try-outs. Students need to submit completed paperwork including a recent physical form to participate. Please review the information at: https://www.fcps.org/athletics

Lancer Cheer Camp 2024 💚🩷💛💜🩵

None of the past 4 days could have been possible without everyone who volunteered at our camp especially our cheerleaders. They are amazing young ladies who love what they do and love to give back and share their knowledge and love of our sport! They are simply the best 💚🩷💛💜🩵

We want to give a special shoutout to the Mt Airy Food Lion who donated water and snacks to all our campers on the last day. Thank you!

Today was a day of lots of hard work by both our campers and our volunteer coaches. Not only did our volunteer coaches work hard in the gym, some of them also had their first day of summer conditioning with TrueAP! Proud of all the work everyone is putting in!!! Can’t wait for our showcase tomorrow. K-1 will start at 10:30 and 2nd-8th will start at 1pm.

Congratulations Walkersville!!

Walkersville High School is the proud recipient of the 2023-24 Sportsmanship Award after going through an entire year without a coach or player ejection in any fall, winter, or spring athletic competitions. The FCPS Athletics Sportsmanship Award is distributed annually to a school that demonstrates a sustained commitment to Respecting the Game by showing proper sportsmanship and excellent character in games and competitions.

Only schools without a player or coach ejection are eligible for the FCPS Sportsmanship Award, which was first given out following the 2015-16 school year. All high school principals and athletic directors vote to determine the recipient, taking into account the positive and supportive behavior shown by coaches, student athletes and spectators.

Gov. Thomas Johnson High and Linganore High earned the 2022-23 FCPS Sportsmanship Award.

This year, two FCPS athletic teams earned statewide recognition for sportsmanship. In the fall, the Frederick High girls cross country team was named the Al Smith Sportsmanship Award recipient for showing outstanding character during the state championship meet. This winter, the Middletown High wrestling team received the MPSSAA Sportsmanship Award at the state championship meet.

Cheer camp starts Monday and we are so excited! Each camper will get one of these amazing shirts that they will wear on Thursday for the showcase!
