Dr. Samuels has been awarded the 2024 ‘Ohana Honors Award by Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ), a division of the American Counseling Association (ACA). This national award honors individuals whose life and work affirm diversity and advocacy for social justice. More importantly, award recipients have demonstrated engagement in advocacy and social justice in the spirit of the following ‘Ohana qualities: caring, humility, intelligence, generosity, integrity, honesty, unconditional love, spiritual power, courtesy, and courage.”

Dr. Samuels has been awarded the 2024 Community Action Award by Maryland Counseling Association (MCA). This state award honors a leader in MCA who has demonstrated notable community action to further the professional identity of counselors, increase access to mental health care, and/or provide mental health services to an underserviced population.

During National School Counseling Week this week, we received EXCITING news from the Maryland School Counselor Association (MSCA)!

• Andrew Bock ('21) received MSCA's 2024 Novice School Counselor of the Year award
• Marissa Wegfahrt, a current graduate student, received MSCA's 2024 Graduate Student of School Counseling of the Year award. She joins Laura Fernandez ('19) who received the award in 2019.

A committee selected them based upon their work this past year and shared that they were "above and beyond the other candidates". It was also shared that Andrew and Marissa received nominations from multiple school counselors across Maryland and site supervisors from their school counseling field experiences. They will be honored alongside the other award winners at a reception during the MSCA 2024 Conference, which will be held on March 17-18 at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, MD.
