Today's health and wellness event, in collaboration with The Table, was a remarkable success, drawing an outstanding attendance of 168 participants. We are grateful for the support of our three exceptional community partners—Encompass Health, Gwyneth's Gift, and VDH/RAHD—who helped make this event possible. Attendees had the opportunity to access vital resources related to chronic health conditions such as stroke and heart diseases. They also learned essential hands-only CPR techniques and received valuable tips on maintaining optimal eye health.

The abundance of healthy and nutritious food and vegetables offered by The Table and health and wellness educational resources available at the event showcased the community's dedication to promoting wellness and fostering a supportive environment. We were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic engagement and positive feedback from participants, which truly underscored our shared commitment to improving the health and well-being of our community.

We want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all who attended, as well as to our partners for their unwavering support. Together, we are cultivating a healthier, more connected community, and we eagerly anticipate future opportunities to continue this essential work!

Email [email protected] to join this health and wellness initiative every two weeks.

We want to share an excellent resource with our community. This is a list of Primary Care for Patients with Medicaid, Medicare, or who are Uninsured.

Sometimes it can be difficult to find a local Medicaid provider accepting new patients. RAHD has done the work for you!

We can stop these preventable deaths! Please check before leaving your car and keep them locked when you leave so a child does not accidentally get in and trapped.

Sadly, so far this year, 13 kids have died in hot cars — 8 within the first half of July.

❌ Never leave a child in a car alone.
👁️ Always check the back seat.
🔒 Lock unattended vehicle doors and keep keys out of reach.

Remember — Once You Park, Stop. 🛑 Look. 👁️ Lock. 🔒

Join us! It’s a beautiful day to get your car seat checked!

Speak for health. Use your voice to advocate for policies that prioritize community well-being. Educate others about public health issues and get in touch with your lawmakers to enact change. APHA’s action alerts make it easy to send messages to your elected officials to tell them about the issues that matter to you.

Join community organizations. Getting involved with community organizations allows you to contribute to initiatives that promote health equity at the local level. For example, participating in a mutual aid network might involve sharing resources within the community during tough times, building a strong support system. This active participation helps create a healthier future where local communities have collective power, ensuring everyone's well-being.

Build an emergency supply kit. Being prepared means stocking up on supplies. An emergency supply kit is a collection of tools that can help in the event of an emergency. Kit supplies can include flashlights, nonperishable food, extra clothes, a first aid kit and personal hygiene items. You also should have a gallon of water per person/pet per day, for three days, if possible.

Have a plan. Create an emergency plan with your family, friends or household. Designate a meeting spot where you all can gather in case you’re separated during an emergency. Learn your local emergency alerts and warnings. Practice emergency drills and memorize evacuation routes.

Public health is all about preventing disease, diagnosing health conditions and encouraging health and well-being. However, achieving these goals wouldn’t be possible without the help of new tools and innovations in public health. From wearable fitness bands to virtual doctors’ appointments, new technology has changed the way individuals and communities receive and respond to health information.

04/03/2024

Here's an easy tip on how YOU can impact our planet for the better....

Buy less. Be thoughtful about fast fashion, flights and the latest technology. Buying less stuff has a big effect on climate emissions, natural resources and pollution. It’s an even greater change than green technology can make.

Tell us how YOU are doing this. Have you minimized your wardrobe? Repurposed objects? Let us know in the comments.

Today in National Public Health Week, we turn the spotlight on creating healthy neighborhoods. Did you know that FAMPO (Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization) is asking for public comments on their Safe Streets for All plan?

Read the draft Safe Streets and Roads For All (SS4A) Action Plan and provide your feedback on whether it captures the most important safety concerns that need to be addressed as soon as possible. Check it out at: https://fampo.gwregion.org/public-involvement/

Join us as we kick off National Public Health Week!

Adults need 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity activity. Physical activity can help improve mental health, reduce the risk of illnesses such as heart disease and Type 2 diabetes, and manage chronic health conditions like arthritis. Use wearable health devices, such as smartwatches, or health apps that track physical activity to monitor how much activity you are getting every day.

What is your favorite health technology? Are you an Apple Watch fan? Garmin? FitBit? Tell us in the comments below!
