NYC Climate Week is here, and California just set the tone 🎉
Exxon, the largest producer of single-use plastics, has profited by promoting the idea that plastics are “safe” and “recyclable.” In reality, less than 9% of plastics are actually recycled, with most polluting the environment. For decades, Exxon and other companies have pushed this “recycling myth” to maintain high plastic production, avoid stricter regulations and increase their profits.
This lawsuit will set an invaluable precedent for others to follow and is a reminder that corporate accountability is key in the fight against plastic pollution. 💪

PSA: Recycling alone isn’t enough ♻️ Recent reports reveal that Big Oil and the plastics industry have known for decades that recycling alone could never address the waste crisis they helped create.
We need to demand better plastic solutions and hold these corporations accountable for misleading the public and shifting the blame and responsibility onto consumers.

Have you seen the latest plastic research covered by the ? 📰 Researchers found that 25% of chemicals from plastic food packaging have been found in the human body (samples of blood, hair or breast milk)—chemicals like PFAS, VOCs, phthalates, and BPA which are known to be linked with adverse human health outcomes.
As a society, we need to move away from plastic packaging towards safer, more sustainable alternatives and implement stricter regulations on what materials are deemed safe for food contact.
To minimize immediate exposure,
👉 Swap plastic containers for silicone or stainless steel
👉 Avoid microwaving food in plastic, as high temperatures cause chemicals to leach more quickly into food
👉 Steer clear of high-fat or acidic foods in plastic packaging, as they tend to absorb more chemicals

Tiny tablets, big clean 💥 Our plastic-free, dry tablets are made without water so we’re able to cut back on shipping emissions while still delivering the powerful clean you’re looking for.
Add this to our 50-year plan ✨
Meat and dairy contribute to about 14.5% of the world’s greenhouse gases each year. That’s equivalent to emissions from all of the cars, trucks, planes and ships combined! 🚗✈️🚢 While beef and lamb generally have the biggest climate footprint per gram of protein, there are nuances to consider for each protein:
👉Beef raised in the U.S. generally produces fewer emissions compared to beef from countries like Brazil or Argentina.
👉Certain cheeses, such as cheddar and mozzarella, are resource-intensive to produce and can have a significantly larger footprint than chicken, pork or lamb.
👉Other practices like farming catfish and shrimp often require substantial energy, resulting in a larger climate footprint than beef.
The answer isn’t to stop eating meat and dairy altogether to save the planet. Even small changes like eating less meat and more plants can make a difference.

Did you know that more than 11 billion microplastics can be released by steeping ONE tea bag? Nearly all tea bags have a plastic (polypropylene) lining or are packaged in plastic sleeves. Here are some alternative ways to have tea– without the sneaky plastic:
1️⃣ Use a metal steeper. After adding your loose leaf tea, use just like a tea bag and steep an individual cuppa to perfection.
2️⃣ Brew your tea. Use a french press to brew your tea leaves. A couple of cups can be made at one time using this method!
3️⃣ Buy your leaves plastic-free. Some, not all, bulk sections have bulk tea leaves! If this isn’t available to you, find loose leaves sold in paper bags or metal tins.
4️⃣ Make your own herbal blends. Herbs such as mint, chamomile, lavender and lemongrass can be steeped with hot water, fresh or dried. Grow them yourself, or pick up bundles from the farmer’s market.
Not all tea bags contain plastic, but most do! If you enjoy a certain brand, confirm that it’s 100% compostable in order to avoid microplastics. How do you make tea? And what’s your fave kind? 🍵👇
Viewing nature from a heternormative lens holds us back from understanding the world we live in and, ultimately, protecting it. It’s time we put our biases aside and re-consider what we view as “natural” to move both social and environmental movements forward 🌎🌈
