Spondylolisthesis is a spinal disorder in which a bone (vertebra) slips forward onto the bone below it.

Spondylolisthesis risk factors include high-impact sports, such as gymnastics and football. Genetics may put some people at increased risk. Spondylolisthesis is a condition that can create spine instability, which means the vertebrae move more than they should. Slippage and instability can put pressure on your spinal nerves, which could cause lower back pain or leg pain.

The word spondylolisthesis (pronounced spohn-di-low-less-THEE-sis) comes from the Greek words spondylos, which means "spine" or "vertebra," and listhesis, which means "slipping, sliding or movement." In many cases, spondylolisthesis can be successfully treated conservatively with chiropractic care. Call us today to find out how and schedule an appointment!

Your body has three types of movements: Segmental, regional, and whole body. Segmental motion occurs between the individual joints of your body. Regional movement occurs in a body region such as your neck, mid-back, or low back. And whole-body movement is typically what we think of as exercise. All three types are essential and work together to keep your spine and musculoskeletal system healthy and functioning at its best.

- Segmental Movement: moving the individual joints of your body is what chiropractors are specifically trained to do. Proper segmental movement can help reduce pain, improve your range of motion, and influence your central nervous system
- Regional Movement: dynamic stretching with regional range of motion exercises can reduce low back stiffness
- Whole Body Exercise: daily whole-body exercise can help your brain and body feel better as well as improve your rest and recovery at night

The foundation of all movement is segmental. If your joints aren't moving correctly, then you'll never be able to optimize your regional or whole-body movement. Moving may be the last thing you want to do if you're struggling with back pain. But top research organizations have proven that proper movement and exercise are two of the best ways to find relief from back pain. If you've dealt with back pain, call us today. Our team will be happy to provide you with a complete movement assessment and personalized movement and exercise plan to help you get (and stay) well for years to come.

Chiropractic care is one of the safest and most effective ways to treat a slipped disc. If you've been struggling with a slipped disc, call us today to schedule an evaluation!

Whiplash is an injury that occurs when your body suddenly moves backward and then forward. These types of injuries are estimated to occur in over 50% of car accidents, but you can also get whiplash injuries from sports or by tripping and falling.

Signs and symptoms of whiplash usually develop within days of the injury, and may include:
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Worsening of pain with neck movement
- Loss of range of motion in the neck
- Headaches, most often starting at the base of the skull
- Tenderness or pain in the shoulder, upper back or arms
- Tingling or numbness in the arms
- Fatigue

Getting the proper evaluation, diagnosis, and care for whiplash injuries is incredibly important. Nearly half of people with chronic neck or back pain can trace it back to an old whiplash injury. Need an evaluation for a new (or old) whiplash injury? Call us today!📞

The combination of inactivity and long periods in an unbalanced posture can wreak havoc on your spinal discs.

- Prolonged sitting significantly reduces the disc height of L4-L5
- Changing positions every 15 minutes helps the discs retain their height
- Use a standing desk and change positions frequently to reduce your risk of low back pain

Keeping your spinal discs healthy is one of the best things you can do to reduce your risk of experiencing neck or back pain. If you spend long hours at the computer, you need to take proactive steps to counteract that stress. Call us today, and we'll be happy to work with you on a plan to keep your spinal discs healthy for years to come.

Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones become weak and brittle as you get older.

Every day your body absorbs and replaces bone tissue. With osteoporosis, new bone creation doesn't keep up with old bone removal. So over time, your bones become hollow and weak.

Many people have no symptoms of osteoporosis until they have a bone fracture.

Weight-bearing exercise and a healthy diet are important to help prevent bone loss or strengthen already weak bones. We've worked with many people who have osteoporosis. We have low-force techniques that are extremely safe and effective and are happy to guide you toward an appropriate exercise program to keep your bones as strong and healthy as possible. Call us today to schedule an appointment!

Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spaces in your spine, which can put pressure on the nerves that travel to your arms and legs. Spinal stenosis occurs most often in the lower back and the neck.

A few of the common symptoms of spinal stenosis include:
- Pain
- Tingling
- Numbness
- Muscle weakness

These symptoms can slowly worsen over time and are often caused by osteoarthritis. Chiropractors can work with your body to decrease inflammation and open up as much space as possible to reduce the pressure on your spinal cord and nerves. For many people, this provides an incredible amount of relief.

The good news is you can change your habits, beliefs, and transform the way you think. When you do, you'll be able to look at the world with a new perspective, which empowers you to become the person you know you can be. Take some time this week to think about the thought loops that play in your head. Be more conscientious about what you tell yourself. Each day, identify what thoughts you can switch to cultivate a more positive mindset.

- Positive thinking can help with managing stress and improve your health
- A positive outlook can decrease your likelihood of a heart attack or cardiovascular event by over 30%
- Negative emotions may weaken your immune response

Cultivating a positive mindset isn't just a woo-woo, granola way to approach life. A positive mindset has been shown to improve your overall health and well-being. New research on the mind-body connection has proven that our mental health impacts much of our physical health.
