Ulnar impaction occurs when the ulna is taller than the radius. A small percentage of people are born this way or sometimes this problem can be acquired after an injury. Patients typically complain of ulnar sided wrist pain or pain while hyperextending the wrist. Non surgical treatments include ice, rest, steroid shots, splinting, and limiting weight bearing activities. Should these conservative measures fail to alleviate symptoms, the most common surgical option is a wrist arthroscopy with likely tfc debridement and ulnar shortening osteotomy.
Thank you, Debra! I am glad you enjoyed your experience.
Please leave a review on Google or Facebook if you have seen me recently. I love to hear your feedback!
Did you know that trigger finger is a size mismatch problem between a tendon that is too big and a tunnel that is too small? It is a common yet painful condition that can be treated with a steroid injection to eliminate discomfort and restore normal motion. This is often successful, but if not surgery is also very effective.
When I’m not seeing patients in the office, one of my favorite things to do is be outdoors. We had a great time hiking on our family camping trip!
Happy 4th of July! I hope you have a fun and safe holiday!

Occasionally, a patient presents with wrist pain, limited motion, and a remote history of trauma. X-rays and physical exam confirm scapholunate advanced collapse or SLAC wrist. Fortunately, there is surgery to help alleviate pain. This is a scaphoid excision and four corner fusion that helped eliminate my patient’s wrist pain and still preserved some motion.
Don’t forget to leave a review on Google or Facebook if you have seen me recently!
Happy Father’s Day! I hope you have a great day celebrating.
Dupuytren’s disease is a genetic disease that causes thick fibrotic cords and nodules in your hand. They can contract and make it difficult for you to put your hand in your pocket. These are before and after surgery photos from my patient who had a cord excision from the small finger and palm. The after photo is from 4 weeks post op and his motion has significantly improved. The longer you wait, the stiffer those joints get so be sure to see a hand surgeon if you are experiencing this.
This photo is awesome! I am so happy to see you were able to get back out there.
De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis is a type of tendinitis that affects the thumb side of the wrist. It can make lifting a pot off the stove very painful. The condition can be treated without surgery by a steroid injection in the tendon sheath, using a thumb immobilizing splint, and NSAID’s. Should the conservative measures fail, a surgery to open the tendon sheath will give the tendons more space to glide through during movement, and this should resolve the pain.
This month’s is Suzanna! She has been working at SPOC as second desk receptionist for two years! I appreciate all of her hard work and we are so happy she is a part of our team.
Thank you for your kind words, Norrie! I am glad you enjoyed your experience.

that wearing a wrist and elbow brace at night while you sleep can help reduce your symptoms of carpal and cubital tunnel during the day? If you wake up with numbness and tingling in your hands, this is the first nonsurgical option I give my patients to try when they have symptoms of carpal or cubital tunnel.
Often times a patient will present with stage 3 thumb cmc arthritis. They usually complain of pain with pinching and grasping, or pain with opening jars or bottles. These x-ray photos were taken before and after an LRTIA surgery to reconstruct the base of the thumb and stabilize it. This patient now has an excellent suspension with plenty of space between the metacarpal and scaphoid.
The Distal Interphalangeal (DIP) joint is the most common location in the hand to develop arthritis. Patients typically experience pain with motion and visible deformity of the joint. The joints can develop painful nodules caused by bone spurs. The most reliable way to treat this is by fusion of the joint. This technique will eliminate pain and deformity of the joint, and eliminate the chance of developing further mucus cysts.
I love these photos and I’m so happy you were able to get back on track. I hope you had a speedy recovery!
This month’s is Nicole! She is my medical assistant and has been a great asset to our team. I am so thankful for all that she does to help me and my patients.
