The Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG is one of the German brand's most sought after models. Introduced in 1986, the 6.0 AMG was based on the Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC, but featured a range of tuning and improvements. The 6.0 AMG's party piece was its engine, originally a 5.6L V8 unit, AMG bored the engine to 6.0L and gave it four valves per cylinder and dual-overhead camshafts. This mighty engine generated 380hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. When creating the 6.0, AMG not only reworked the engine, but the suspension and interior, creating a truly special machine. One of the most notable changes on the 6.0 AMG was the 'Wide Body' body and aero kit that gave the car a menacing, sporty look. Production of the 6.0 AMG lasted until 1991, with only around 50 examples believed to have been built.

Mercedes’ first podium of the season!

With the best finish thus far, George Russell was left disappointed as he slipped backwards in the Canadian Grand Prix. Initially holding the lead to crossing the line in P3, the Briton hailed the progress displayed by Mercedes in an overall strong weekend for the squad.

The BMW 320i is the second generation of BMW 3 Series, which was produced from 1982 to 1994 and replaced the E21 3 Series. The model range included 2-door coupe and convertible body styles, as well as being the first 3 Series to be produced in 4-door sedan and wagon/estate body styles. It was powered by four-cylinder petrol, six-cylinder petrol and six-cylinder diesel engines, the latter a first for the 3 Series. The E30 325iX model was the first BMW to have all-wheel drive.

The idea of Mercedes producing a toned-down Grand Prix car targeted to affluent performance enthusiasts in the booming post-war American market was suggested by Max Hoffman at a 1953 directors' meeting in Stuttgart. Mercedes' new general director, Fritz Konecke, agreed to Hoffman's order for 1,000 cars to guarantee the success of the production run; the 300 SL was introduced at the February 1954 New York International Auto Show instead of the Frankfurt or Geneva shows, where company models usually debuted. In addition, the production of a smaller roadster, the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL, was announced after Hoffman ordered another 1,000 of them. The 300 SL and the 190 SL premiered at the 1954 New York show; Mercedes-Benz experienced a positive visitor response to both, and production began at the Sindelfingen plant in August of that year.

Progression...

For the second week in a row, George Russel was the blink of an eye away from breaking into the top two rows on the grid, qualifying a fraction of a second off Norris in P4, a tenth off the front row.

It was an effort all the more impressive considering he had struggled with a suspension issue for much of Friday.

The gaps at the end of the race tell a story of progress too. The large deficits from the start of the season are coming down. 45 seconds in Bahrain and Japan, to 17 seconds in Miami and just 13 in Monaco.

Behind, despite running a conservative four seconds off the pace during the Grand Prix, Lewis in P7 was a lap clear of Yuki Tsunoda, who made one less visit to the pits, too.

"That was our strongest race of the season, there were a lot of positives to take," said George.

"It is the closest we have been to victory and the best the car has been feeling, especially in a circuit where we have ordinarily struggled."

George William Russell is a British racing driver currently competing in Formula One for Mercedes. He previously raced for Williams from 2019 to 2021.

After winning several karting championships including the CIK-FIA European Karting Championship in 2012, he repeated his success by becoming the 2018 Formula 2 champion and the 2017 GP3 Series champion, driving for ART in both campaigns to become one of only three drivers to win both championships in his respective rookie seasons. Following his Formula 2 championship win, Russell signed for Williams in 2019, making his debut at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix. He stood in for Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, but was denied a Grand Prix victory due to strategic errors. In 2022, Russell departed Williams to race for the Mercedes team, having been a member of the Mercedes Junior Driver Program since 2017. Russell achieved his first F1 victory at the 2022 São Paulo Grand Prix.

As of the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, Russell has achieved one victory, one pole position, six fastest laps and eleven podium finishes in his career. Russell is contracted to drive for Mercedes until the conclusion of the 2025 season.

The Audi 80 is a compact executive car produced by the Audi subdivision of the Volkswagen Group across four generations from 1966 to 1996. It shared its platform with the Volkswagen Passat from 1973 to 1986 and was available as a saloon, and station wagon — the latter marketed by Audi as the Avant. The coupé and convertible models were not badged as members of the range, but used a derivative of the same platforms.

In North America and Australia, the 80 was marketed as the Audi Fox for model years 1973–79, as the Audi 4000 for model years 1980–87 in the USA, as Audi 4000 5+5 from 1981 in the USA, and Audi 5+5 in Australia during 1981 through 1983.

First unveiled at the 1936 Berlin Motor Show, the BMW 326 not only sold well for the rest of that decade, but following the war its box-section chassis formed the basis for the Bristol 400. The launch of the 326 also brought with it the introduction of the famous 1971cc straight-six engine that would be adopted and developed by Bristol in the 1940s and 1950s.

With its independent front suspension and rear torsion bars, much was made in period of the 326’s comfort and handling. ‘This springing comfort and safety,’ said the brochure, ‘obviously enable very high average speeds to be maintained without effort, even for the longest and most arduous journey.’ Hydraulic dampers and brakes were fitted, and there was even rack-and-pinion steering.

The pressed-steel body of the 326 was made by AMBI-Budd in Berlin before being transported to BMW’s Eisenach factory, where it was welded to the chassis to create a rigid structure. Other variants included the 320/321, the 327 cabriolet and fixed-head coupé, and the highly developed 328 competition cars.

Nearly 16,000 BMW 326s of all types left the factory up to 1941, with some being exported to the UK and sold as Frazer Nash-BMWs. With the Frazer Nash marque struggling, its owners – the Aldington family – had done a deal with BMW to become its official importer. That arrangement lasted until the outbreak of war, with right-hand-drive cars being sent over to Frazer Nash’s Isleworth base, where a new building was erected to cope with the influx.

Not only did the 326 play a role in the development of the Bristol 400 after the war, it was also modified into the EMW 340. That car was built at Eisenach, which was by then under Soviet control, and more than 21,000 were made before production stopped in 1955.

Out-of-the-box @ 414 horsepower makes the m3 very sought-after, even 14 years later.
Many have been transformed into super-performance machines, trailered to tracks all over the world. The biggest difference between the predecessor is under the hood. The production versions came with a hand-built V8 that will push these BMWs from 0 to 60 in as little as 4.7 seconds!

The Mercedes-AMG F1 W15 E PERFORMANCE builds on the learnings from the previous two seasons and a new car enables the team to make bigger alterations that are not possible during the season.

These changes include a new chassis, and new gearbox casing. Aerodynamically, as ever, the focus has been on efficiency, the endless quest for finding more downforce with less drag and delivering it to the tack in a manner that complements the function of the suspension and tires.

A big focus has been on improving the previous car’s unpredictable rear axle. The team have worked hard to ensure that both axles, but particularly the rear axle, retain better control of the tire than on the W14. There’s also been some housekeeping on areas in which we had room for improvement, including the DRS effect, and pit stop performance.

However, it is the underside of the car where the main differentiating factors lie. James Allison said: “With this current generation of cars, so much of the performance comes from how the floor interacts with the road. Whether or not a car is effective is down to how well that floor is permitted to behave aerodynamically.

Dialing out the inconsistent performance of the W14 and its sometimes spiteful rear-end has been a key technical focus. Both George and Lewis are clear on the rewards that could bring if the team has been able to do so.

The Performance Hybrid...

The GT 63 S E-Performance is the top-of-the-line, flagship variant of the GT 4-Door. It is the first car to be launched under Mercedes’ new E Performance brand. It features the same 4.0L M177 Biturbo V8 engine, with the same electric motor powertrain as the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Concept. The engine alone produces 470 kW (639 PS; 630 hp) from 5,500 to 6,500 rpm, and 900 N⋅m (664 lbf⋅ft) from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. It is supplemented by a rear-mounted electric motor that spins up a maximum of 204 PS for 10-second blasts and can continually provide 95 PS, and 300 N⋅m (221 lbf⋅ft) of torque.

The BMW 328 was a sports car offered by BMW, with the body design credited to Peter Szymanowski, who became BMW chief of design after World War II (although technically the car was designed by Fritz Fiedler).
The 328 was introduced at the Eifelrennen race at the Nürburgring in 1936, where Ernst Henne drove it to win the 2.0-litre class. The 328 had more than 100 class wins in 1937, including the RAC Tourist Trophy, the Österreichische Alpenfahrt, and the La Turbie hillclimb. In 1938, the 328 won its class at the RAC Tourist Trophy, the Alpine Rally, and the Mille Miglia.
The 328 won the RAC Rally in 1939 and came in fifth overall and first in class in the 1939 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The eligibility of the GTR was the subject of controversy, with some rival teams believing that the GTR was an in-house prototype vehicle rather than a production model available for purchase by the general public. The ALMS homologation rules for 2001 required the M3 GTR road car to be sold on at least two continents within twelve months of the rules being issued, which BMW claimed to fulfill by stating that 10 GTR road cars were available for sale.

In order to homologate the M3 GTR for racing, a road version was developed during calendar year 2001 and shown for the first time at the season ending ALMS Petit Le Mans race. BMW produced 10 development units of which 3 were production ready display cars. For homologation purposes, the M3 GTR needed to be offered for sale to the general public and by Petit Le Mans 2001, the car was ready. When ALMS changed the homologation rules at the end of the 2001 season, the road version project was stopped. All 7 development prototypes were recycled but the three production ready display cars exist to this day and all still owned by BMW AG. One of the Road M3 GTRs was displayed by BMW of North America LLC at Legends of the Autobahn in 2015 along with the newly restored ALMS race version of the car. The road cars were built alongside bodies-in-white of the GTR race cars in the special vehicles department of BMW's Regensburg Plant.

As with the race car, the GTR road car was powered by the 4.0-litre P60 V8 engine. The engine retained the race cars' dry sump oil system and was slightly detuned from 331 to 285 kW (444 to 382 hp) at 7,000 rpm. Top speed was 295 km/h (183 mph). The transmission was a six-speed manual and the differential was the same variable locking unit as used in the race car.

The dry weight was 1,350 kg (2,980 lb). Weight reduction measures included a carbon fiber front bumper, rear bumper and rear wing.

The M3 GTR gained a cult following in the gaming community after it appeared in the 2005 video game Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Road & Track, who collaborated on the first Need for Speed video game, described the game's custom M3 GTR as being "so iconic that fans still recreate the livery in real life." Once searched about the M3 GTR, nearly 85% of the results will relate the car to Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

The Mercedes-Benz 230s (W111) was a chassis code given to a range of Mercedes-Benz vehicles produced between 1959 and 1971, including four-door saloons (1959–1968) and two-door coupés and cabriolets (1961–1971). Their bodywork featured distinctive tailfins that gave the models their Heckflosse nickname — German for "fintail".

Introduced with a 2.2-litre inline 6-cylinder engine, the W111 spawned a pair of variant lines which bracketed it in 1961: downscale entry-level inline 4-cylinder engined vehicles sharing the W111 chassis and bodies, designated the W110; and the W112, a high-end luxury saloon built on the W111 chassis with its body but exclusive features, elaborate appointments, and the Mercedes-Benz 300d Adenauer's fuel-injected 3-litre M189 six-cylinder engine – at the time the company's largest.

Somewhat confusingly, both the W111 and W112 lines included vehicles with different Paul Bracq-designed bodywork, the 2-door coupé and cabriolet.

The Mercedes-Benz W123 was a range of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from November 1975 to January 1986. The W123 models surpassed their predecessor, the Mercedes-Benz W114, as the most successful Mercedes, selling 2.7 million units before production ended in the autumn of 1985 for the saloon/sedan versions and January 1986 for coupés and estates/station wagons.

Following a slow production build-up during the first year, customers who placed their orders faced a lengthy waiting period of nine to twelve months. A black market emerged for the customers who were willing to pay more for immediate delivery. The slightly used W123 commanded about 5,000 Deutsche Mark premium over its original sale price.

Like its predecessors, the W123 gained the reputation of being well built and reliable. Many taxi companies chose the W123, and they were a common sight in Germany. Reaching 500,000 or 1,000,000 km with only minor mechanical issues was common with W123s used as taxicabs. Once the W123 reached the end of its service life, they were often shipped to Africa and third world countries where they were highly esteemed for their ability to travel on rough roads and to not require frequent maintenance.

W123 production ended in January 1986 with 63 final T-models rolling out. The most popular single models were the 240D (455,000 built), the 230E (442,000 built), and the 200D (378,000 built).
