HALO (Healing after a loss by overdose) is a support program offered by the Center for Grief and Healing at Hinds Hospice. The next session will begin February 27. Space is limited, and advanced registration is required. Call (559) 248-8579 or mailto: [email protected] We know that losing a loved one to a drug-related death impacts a family deeply and the feelings of isolation that grievers can experience. The HALO program is currently offering a parent-specific support group. Our goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where parents can experience their grief and connect with other parents who have experienced a similar loss. This St. Patrick’s Day we are “Honoring the Journey” of the Hinds Hospice Home on its 35th Anniversary! Nancy Hinds, staff, volunteers, and community supporters gathered yesterday for a blessing and a remembrance for the patients and families we have served there since the home’s opening on March 16, 1987. Nancy Hinds says the March anniversary and St. Patrick’s Day share a special meaning because they keep her connected to her husband, who was from Ireland. Nancy worked with him there before moving to Fresno. Each St. Patrick’s Day, Nancy marks the home’s opening with a gift of shamrocks for the home’s staff and volunteers and a visit with neighbors on Twain Avenue. We are thankful for their continued support of the Hospice Home and our mission at Hinds Hospice. Hinds 40 year flashback! In 1981, holiday shoppers were cramming into shopping centers and strip malls as the season of giving was in full swing. The hottest toy of the year was the Rubik’s Cube, invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik, who originally called the puzzle the Magic Cube. In 1980, the Rubik’s Cube won the German Game of the Year Award for Best Puzzle. Rubik then licensed his toy with the Ideal Toy Corporation to sell and distribute worldwide. In the last 40 years, more than 450 million Rubik’s Cubes have sold making the game not only the best-selling puzzle of all time but also the best-selling toy. In 1981, as shoppers busy searching for the hot-selling cube, Nancy Hinds was busy taking care of patients in the first Hinds Hospice Home on Simpson Avenue.
