Welcome back to our monthly Volunteer Spotlight!
This month we interviewed a group of volunteers who call themselves the No-Party, Party Ladies. Their names are Stephanie Renna, Leslie Knutsen, Paula Yost, Virginia Dixon, Marsha Johnson, & Loretta Wroble.
We hope you enjoy what they have to say...
1. Tell us about the No-Party, Party Ladies how did you guys get that name, and what do you do here and Hinds Hospice?
About 30 years ago, our group was called the Hinds Hospice Auxiliary. One of our members received an invitation to a fundraising event that stated, “You don’t have to buy fancy clothes, spend hours getting ready, or hire a babysitter. Come as you are and donate what you can,” and it was called The No-Party Party. We loved the idea and just ran with it! For many years we would meet at Nancy’s home on Twain and brainstorm ideas for future fundraising events. So over the years, we became the No-Party Party ladies. At the time, Martha Acuna and Louise Mar headed up the Auxiliary. Now, there are just 5 of us who work in the Fresno office on the second Monday of the month. We lovingly put together Blessing Boxes that are for the family when a loved one is passing. We’ve also addressed envelopes, stuffed ziplock bags with gloves for nurses and aides, and anything else they need us to do.
2. How long have you been volunteering as a group here at Hinds?
The current group has been together for about 8 years.
3. What are your favorite things to do outside of volunteering?
Our favorite thing to do outside of volunteering is actually more volunteering! We belong to Gamma Psi Sorority which is a chapter of ESA - Epsilon Sigma Alpha - an International Philanthropic group. Besides volunteering, some of us enjoy Tai Chi, attending different fundraising events, going to the gym, traveling, quilting, projects for the Veterans Home, assisting with the Honor Flights, working with Fresno State Baseball Foundation, and of course, getting together for lunch and dinner!
Wishing everyone a cool and celebratory Independence Day 🇺🇸🔔❤️

Hi everyone, please meet Rachael.
Rachael has been on service with Hinds Kids Pediatrics since she was a child, but as of Thursday, June 12th, she has officially graduated from the program and is eligible to transition to our Adult Palliative Care Program.
Rachael invited her family, friends, and pediatrics team to celebrate this milestone and graduation with her favorite foods from the Pickled Deli. Her pediatrics team thinks she is a pretty “big dill” and presented her with a certificate honoring her time spent with the program.
Rachael has overcome many obstacles in her life and lives it to the fullest. She is a huge advocate for children of all ages who suffer from chronic and life-limiting illnesses like her. Her newest venture is volunteering in our local chapter of Make-A-Wish to help gain awareness and funds for children to make their wish come true.
She loves life, her family, and her dog fiercely and doesn’t take for granted the time she has been given. If you see her around or have a moment now, please congratulate Rachael, and wish her luck with her next adventure!
"We talk about them, not because we're stuck or because we haven't moved on, but we talk about them because we are theirs, and they are ours, and no passage of time will ever change that."
If you are a mom who lost their child by su***de, we would like to invite you to join us in support of one another on Saturday, June 15 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Hinds Hospice Center for Grief and Healing at 2490 W. Shaw Ave. Fresno, CA 93711.
RSVP is encouraged, but not required. We invite you to bring a photo of your child to share with the group. Please call 559-322-5877 or email [email protected] if you would like to attend or have questions about the gathering.

It's that time again when we get the chance to spotlight one of our amazing volunteers! This month we got the chance to interview Jamie Rushing a patient care volunteer, she takes time to visit and support our patients through presence and companionship! We are so thankful to have her on our team!
Let's see what Jamie had to say below:
What is your role and why do you volunteer?
I am a patient care volunteer. I came to Hinds after my grandfather was a patient in 2018. He received such wonderful care at a time when our family was struggling and I will be forever grateful. I want to live in a world where we treat death as reverently and naturally as we treat birth. In a small way, as a Hinds Hospice volunteer, I feel like I'm helping make that vision a reality.
What is your secret talent?
My secret talent is reading tarot cards and birth charts.
Do you have any hobbies?
I have several hobbies and always have a project in the works. I garden, make candles and incense, quilt and sew, bake and read. My current project is learning to care for and grow orchids.
What was your favorite show growing up?
My favorite show growing up was Reading Rainbow.
At what age did you become an adult?
I'm not sure what age I'll become an adult. I'll keep you posted.
Thank you 💙
