Hello everyone,
This is the Fall 2024 information for Recreational Badminton at Fresno State.
Important details:
The semester begins on August 23 and ends on December 29.
The schedule is
Sundays: 5 PM to 9 PM
Fridays: 6 PM to 10 PM.
We will be playing every Friday and Sunday from August 23 to December 29.
There are 38 days to play during the semester.
The registration fee is $70.
Please register here: https://bit.ly/4cs0CXi
We understand the registration fee is higher this semester, so here’s the reasoning behind it:
The cost to rent the gym for the semester is $7,600. The registration fee we chose is a balance between trying to keep the fee low and trying to ensure enough people register to cover the rental cost. At $70, we will need at least 109 people to register in order to pay the rental fee.
The registration fee is very reasonable when you look at the cost per day. If you come to the gym on all 38 days, the cost breaks down to about $1.85 per day ($70 divided by 38 days).
Also, for the Fall 2024 semester, everyone will get a new clothespin. The main purpose of this is to make sure each clothespin clearly identifies its owner. Your new clothespin should be labeled with your first name or nickname followed by the initial of your last name. Please make sure you spell out your first name. Just initials are not allowed as it might be hard for your fellow players to identify you when your turn comes up.
Another purpose of the new clothespins is to help make sure everyone is aware that they need to register before playing. The new clothespins are a different color from clothespins we used in the past so it will help identify people who may not have registered yet.
You can get a new clothespin as soon as you have registered for the fall semester.
Feel free to reach out to any of the club officers with any questions, comments or concerns.
Best regards,
FSA Badminton Club

Hello everyone,
Thank you for being a badminton aficionado.
This message is to let you know about changes coming soon to the Recreational Badminton class at Fresno State.
A few months ago the Division of Continuing and Global Education at Fresno State let our class instructor, Sonny, know that fees would increase significantly in order to continue the class. The fee was more than six times what each player currently pays right now. Because of this, we looked into other options. The best option entails forming a club under the Fresno State Alumni Association in order to continue to have the Recreational Badminton class at a reasonable cost. This will result in the following changes:
• The Division of Continuing and Global Education at Fresno State will no longer collect the registration fee. The new fee will probably be collected through a new online registration process.
• The club will be billed a rental fee each semester for the use of the gym. The full payment must be made to the Kinesiology Department before the start of each semester.
• The club will be responsible for paying the gym rental fee and any other expenses for the class. Other expenses might be: equipment maintenance/replacement, first aid kit, clothespins, etc.
• In order to pay the class expenses the registration fee will need to increase. Right now, we are considering an amount of at least $50 per player, per semester. We will also look into a way to be flexible so a person can pay by semester or on a daily basis. Exact details are still being worked out.
• Because the gym rental fee is due before the semester begins, the club is looking for companies and individuals that can contribute towards paying it. The club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so donors can claim that tax benefit. Contact Sonny for more information.
Because of the new changes, a club board needs to be formed. The board has 5 officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Fresno State Liaison. Sonny has found people to fill these positions. Right now these positions have been filled as follows: President - Sonny Lim, Vice President - Jesse Hamsa, Secretary - Karyee Chan, Treasurer - Eric Bopp, Fresno State Liason - Carlos Martinez. The positions have a term of one or two years initially. When an officer's term expires an election will need to be held to fill the position.
The club is expected to be approved and become active on June 8. After this date, we will be able to reserve the South Gym and start the class again. Also note that the summer semester will be shortened due to refinishing of the gym floor.
Even though the club will be part of the Fresno State Alumni Association, registration for the badminton class will still be open to everyone.
The details of the new process are still being worked out and updates will be posted when more information is available.

Update from Sonny for the Recreational Badminton class at Fresno State:
The class is expected to be back for the fall semester which begins in the third week of August.
Originally it was planned to resume April 10th but that wasn't possible due to construction in the gym. Construction is expected to be complete by mid-July. That would leave 4 or less weeks for the summer semester which isn't practical to do. So the class should resume when the fall semester begins.
There will be a badminton tournament at Fresno City College on Saturday May 21st. See the poster for details.
