Cultural fit is very important in your company, but some businesses are taking the idea of cultural fit and using it to hire people who are pretty much identical to the people already on staff.
6 Questions to Ask a Job Applicant to Ensure a Cultural Fit You want someone who can work well in your office--not someone to be your new best friend. Here's how to get that person.
Central Valley Events Embraces Imperfection
At Central Valley Events, we believe there are two basic mindsets: fixed and growth. The fixed mindset considers intelligence and skills to be unchanging. Meanwhile, the growth mindset believes that talent can be developed. We’d like to highlight one company that values a growth mindset more than just about anything else.
Medallia provides cloud-based customer service solutions to a variety of entities. It was founded on the idea that people can learn through practice. As co-founder Amy Pressman explained, “Every morning, we get up and think about what we’ve done, what we’ve learned, and how we can do better.” At Central Valley Events, we respect this commitment to constant improvement.
The innovative tech company has a person dedicated to evaluating candidates in terms of cultural fit. Company leaders want to be certain that a new addition has a growth mindset. When onboarding new hires, Medallia’s executives remind them that it’s okay not to be perfect. In fact, imperfection is almost encouraged. As the firm’s leaders see it, that’s how real learning happens.
As a senior manager within the firm put it, “The critical thing for me was how unique Medallia is in encouraging learning and in encouraging people to be comfortable with trying new things.”
We at Central Valley Events encourage every company to adopt a growth mindset. It will lead to daily improvements and lasting success.

PRESS RELEASE : Central Valley Events Grows Team, Recruits College Grads
FRESNO, CA – Central Valley Events’ president discussed the firm’s ongoing hiring initiative. He also elaborated on the importance of entering a career path and shared the things he looks for when evaluating new college graduates.
The leaders at Central Valley Events believe in providing rewarding career paths for motivated young professionals. As Sean G., the firm’s president, added, “Our emphasis on building a career is especially important right now. We’re actively seeking to grow our team. We want to find passionate individuals who will commit themselves to constant improvement. Central Valley Events is achieving big wins every day, and we want people who will develop along with us.”
One way company leaders encourage a focus on a long-term career is through their advancement strategies. As the president explained, “We offer promotions based on merit. Seniority and politics don’t factor into our advancement approach.” By maintaining this stance, the firm’s leaders inspire their team members to perform at high levels. “Competitive creativity rules the day here at Central Valley Events,” added Sean.
To enable their people to thrive, the firm’s leadership team also upholds a supportive work atmosphere. Through comprehensive training, one-to-one coaching, and continuous skill building, the company’s associates are equipped with all the necessary tools to succeed. As the president put it, “We think our team members deserve the best. That’s why we invest so heavily in their success.”
Central Valley Events’ President Explains His Desired Traits in College Graduates
New college graduates play a large part in the firm’s current hiring push. As Sean stated, “I always look to new graduates when adding to our team here at Central Valley Events. These young people bring a lot of benefits with them. They tend to be comfortable with technology and they’re used to learning new concepts. Also, they’re motivated to make names for themselves.”
Sean looks for some specific things when evaluating candidates who are fresh out of college. As he said, “I want to know that a new grad is passionate about our industry, but I also want to see how much he or she has done to prepare for the professional world.”
One thing the president looks for immediately is a LinkedIn profile. “It’s a great way to start making connections right out of school,” he noted. “So I find out right away that the candidate is serious about building a career. I know that he or she is enterprising and that the individual recognizes the value of standing out from the competition.”
Internships are also valuable in Sean’s eyes. “Securing an internship shows a lot of initiative,” he added. “It doesn’t matter all that much what a candidate did during his or her days as an intern. To me, it’s all about learning professionalism and knowing how an office works.”

PRESS RELEASE : Central Valley Events’ March Madness Office Competition
FRESNO, CA – Central Valley Events’ president discussed the nature of his team’s March Madness activities, and offered an overview of the collegiate tournament.
“March Madness is upon us!” grinned Sean G., the president of Central Valley Events. “A lot of business leaders may dread this time of year, but I look forward to it. I really believe that it works wonders for office productivity, as long as it’s approached carefully.”
Sean is not alone in his opinion of March Madness. Approximately half of all managers feel that the collegiate basketball games are good for team morale, and more than one third of them think relative activities boost productivity.
“We’re having our own version of the March Madness events,” Sean said. “Not only will we be keeping a close eye on the progression of our favorite teams, but everyone will also be competing against one another to meet a variety of office and sales goals. Our team members will navigate through brackets and, of course, there will be prizes for those who come out on top.”
Leader of Central Valley Events Explains March Madness Event
“Just because we’re having our own competition doesn’t mean we at Central Valley Events aren’t thrilled for the collegiate games,” Sean continued. “Some people are deterred by this exciting event because it seems so complex. While there are nuances in terms of invitations, seeds, etc., the overall gist isn’t very difficult to understand.”
Sean explained that the time period between the second week of March and the first week of April every year is consumed with the March Madness phenomenon. It is the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). “There are hundreds of teams in Division I college basketball, but only 68 men’s teams and 64 women’s teams participate in these games,” he indicated.
“Games are scheduled using the bracket system, and things really heat up when it comes to the semifinal round of competition,” Sean elaborated. “The final four teams play in two games, and the winners of each move on to the finals. The semifinals are held on the first weekend of April; men on Saturday and women on Sunday. The finalists then play on Monday. It’s incredibly intense!”
According to Sean, the entire team is energized and eager to engage in some friendly competition. “Not only is everyone hoping to be the individual with the most accurate bracket selections for the NCAA events, but they are chomping at the bit to come out on top at the conclusion of our office games. I’m sure it will be a blast!”
