DR PETE POST! (VALENTINES DAY EDITION!)

FLU! (YES, AGAIN!)

Do NOT give your valentine the flu please! Not-surprising latest update: the flu is still at “very high levels” in our area according to all the recent surveillance, pretty much as high as anywhere in the country. SOOOO…guess what we still recommend? Flu vaccines! 6 months old and up is eligible. Schedule an appointment. And for your sick kids: if they have a fairly sudden onset of fever, cold symptoms, body aches, etc – consider getting checked for flu within the first 48 hours of symptoms. If it’s been more than 48 hours, we cannot prescribe the flu anti-viral medicines (tamiflu/xofluza) because they won’t help if started late.

SPORTS!

Super Bowls are cool. Funny commercials are cool. Usher on roller skates is cool. Not my favorite team in the game is not so cool, but a good close game is fun anyway. Young surprise talent QB wins? Great! Former champ comes back in the second half to win in OT? Also great! Anyway….PARENTS! Your student athlete will usually require a sports physical done after April 1st or May 1st for the following year’s participation. Check with your specific school for their rules. We love doing these during Well Child visits, but can do a visit just for sports physical if you are not due for a yearly well check. Don’t wait until late Summer to try to schedule a football/volleyball/marching band physical (yes, band also) since the slots fill up.

I ONLY TALK ABOUT 1 SHOW THIS TIME!

BLUEY! (Disney+): I realize this is old news ...Anyone checking in on a pediatric facebook post is pretty much guaranteed to be aware of this show, whether from seeing it or buying the merch or considering the halloween costume or whatever. What’s more, if you’ve watched even a fraction of an episode you are pretty much guaranteed to adore or at least be amused by this happy/warm-and-fuzzy/comfort-food-depiction of a family of Australian cattle dogs. So…NO
