During the first few months baby's have 45 minute sleep cycles. This is often why babies take short naps.

Just like adults, babies sleep in sleep cycles where they transition through different stages of sleep.

Sometimes as your baby gets older, they can get "stuck" in these short sleep cycles, even though they are now capable of sleeping longer stretches. A question I often get is, what is the difference between a growth spurt and a developmental leap? The short answer is, a growth spurt is when your baby's body is doing just that, growing! During this time your baby is going to be hungrier than normal. This can last 3-5 days. Some babies often get very sleepy during this time. Growing is hard work! A developmental leap, is when their brain becomes very active, and they begin to learn a new skill. Can be anything from learning to coo, learning to grab toys, suck on their hands, roll over, etc. As with everything, all babies do things in their own time, but below, you'll find a general guide as when to expect these growth spurts and developmental milestones to occur.

Hi parents!! After years of serving new families overnight, I am now opening up my schedule to help families during the day. I'll be helping families transition home after having a baby. Part of my services will include, helping to establish a routine and establish your "new normal." Helping to answer all those questions of, "Why won't my baby stop crying?" "How do I give my baby a bath?" "Why won't my baby sleep?" and all the other 101 questions that can come up after you leave the hospital. Did you know that babies are unable to truly thermoregulate until between 18 months to 2yrs old?? This means once they get cold, or hot, they are unable to warm themselves back up (Or cool themselves down).
