Had an interesting flight for a scattering off the coast of Malibu today. The client hired a banner to plane to fly as well. Took some coordination. On Sunday we had a scattering flight at sea off the coast of Laguna Beach at a hard set time. What to do if it’s overcast? The family and I decided I would do it above the clouds and the would follow us on a flight tracker. Well to get above the clouds you need to do an instrument departure and an instrument approach. ATC had a lot of traffic so we got some good flying in.

We had a great weekend of flying. Morning clouds that burned off to clear blue skies. These pictures are from a scattering we did off the coast of San Clemente. San Clemente can be a bit tricky as it’s very close to the restricted airspace near Camp Pendleton. It all worked out and we got these great photos.
Had a great flight to scatter at sea off the coast of Palos Verdes. The family witnessed from the Terranea Resort.

Today we flew to Fabulous Las Vegas, NV. The family wanted us to scatter their parents cremated remains where the could see the Las Vegas Strip. So we scattered them over Red Rock National conservation Area. They will forever have a view of Las Vegas. The family watch the release from the visitors center while they too had a view of “the strip”.
I know you can’t tell, but Catalina Island is under those clouds. We have permission from the Conservancy to to scatter over the island. It amazes me sometimes what we see when we emerge from the clouds on a glum day.
We had to dance around some broken clouds in order to do this scattering over the Santa Monica Mountains. Luckily one of the breaks was right over the scattering location. The family watched from Kanan Dume Rd.
Rain yesterday and rain tomorrow. But today…..today was a pretty day for flying. The sky gave us a fun palate of colors.
With the recent weather we have been lucky to have flexible clients. Waiting one day can be the difference between dark and dreary and sunny and beautiful. This is a scattering we did over the Santa Monica mountains one day after having to cancel the flight due to low visibility and rain.
This was a special flight. The deceased served our country and his family’s wishes were to have him scattered near a military base. We just so happen to have the Los Alamitos Joint Forces training base and the Naval Weapons Station Seal beach in our Backyard. We flew over both of these and the off the coast to scatter.
Getting to dance with the clouds in order to make this scattering happen.
The family wanted a sunset scattering while they watch from the pier. Today’s weather had me a little worried, but there was just enough holes in the overcast for the sun to peek through. Then we used one of the holes and climbed above it.
