Hydrostatic pressure is the basement killer!

This is caused by water below the ground surface applying constant inward force on basement walls. Causing walls to collapse, cracks to form, early deterioration of mortar and flooded basements.

This is something that can be avoided with a French drain system to remove the water from the exterior of your basement walls before it builds up and causes damage.

Every basement should have a french drain at the footer, unfortunately home builders typically don’t install them when the home is being built. This is also an issue that is impossible to detect, it’s several feet below the ground surface. You can have a completely dry yard and a lot of hydrostatic pressure.

In some cases, the water in a flooded basement comes from the floor slab. In this situation a French drain and pump system is the only option for a guaranteed repair that will last.

Do you have a dehumidifier in your crawlspace?

Dehumidifiers work very similar to a small AC unit. They have many of the same components.

These units need servicing regularly to avoid failure. if the machine is not serviced regularly and becomes clogged it causes the machine to go into safety mode as shown below. Typically it’s just a filter change and a cleaning and it’s back to working properly.

However if the machine goes long periods of time without service it may fail completely. Replacing the machine itself costs thousands. For example unit in the pictures below costs $2,300 plus shipping and installation.

This home on stilts had settled several inches in this corner causing issues and damage to the elevator.

We removed some concrete, poured 3 new footings 8” thick with high strength concrete and steel reinforcements. We then lifted the home back to level, made sure all doors and windows were functional then added 3 new 6x6 wooden posts to match the original ones.

Next was the elevator, I’ll be the first to tell you our crew has never touched an elevator but these wonderful customers couldn’t live without it due to health reasons. Our team fabricated the damaged parts (with the help of the home owner) then installed them and thoroughly tested the elevator to make sure it was safe.
