Why does it take longer to get into see your doctor and the doctor spends less time with you once you get there? Medicare cut private practice physicians’ reimbursement rates again, while simultaneously increasing payments to hospitals. With lower reimbursements, we cannot keep up with rising salaries, rents, energy costs, basic supplies and materials price increases, rising malpractice insurance rates, and many other miscellaneous expenses. When you have to wait 3-6 months for an appointment to see a physician (MD or DO) and the appointment limited to 15 min, ask your government why are driving private practice physicians to join private equity backed groups and hospital systems? Those large entities already collect reimbursements up 50% more than what you would pay to a private care physician. Oddly, employed physicians don’t get much of that money. Bankers and administrators that bear no responsibility nor increase in quality of care gather much more than those they deliver it.

A moment of levity

On this first Hanukkah light, we remember the hostages that remain under terrorist control and those that began the difficult recovery journey from physical and emotional bo***ge. May the miracles that were with us in the times of Maccabees be with us in these times. May the peace and prosperity grace the citizens of this world. Let the divine light shine brightly on our homesteads.

My posts calling for the hostages release and to curb antisemitism have triggered a few Hamas supporters. There are several people attempting to harass me online. They tag me on various posts touting presumably Palestinian deaths at the hands of IDF or comment with equally questionable photos and videos on my posts. There is a forceful drive to compare losses as if two wrongs make one right.

Then came insulting claims that the hostages were treated better than the people around. That they were well fed. They held hands and/or waved at their captors.

None of this is true. If we are to compare what these hostages went through, while being held by a teacher (!) and a pediatrician (!), to how Palestinian prisoners were held, we realize the hostages were just chattel to proper who just want to kill them.

Here’s the truth. It is ugly and painful.

I am grateful to our patients for entrusting their health to us and patience while we are struggling with staffing issues once again.
