Linda and Gordon Potter's retirement has brought new experiences, including relocating to a 55+ community in northeast Georgia and volunteering at their local hospital. Their commitment to community service and philanthropy remains strong.

Working with their financial advisor, they developed a legacy plan with specific criteria.

Linda explained, "We wanted to support things we value, give to an organization that would use our gifts wisely, fulfill an unmet need, and make our community better—for everyone."

The Potters' experience with a friend who received hospice care in Nashville inspired them to support similar care locally.

Linda shared, "Our dear friend was treated respectfully and received pain-free, compassionate care in a comfortable setting surrounded by people who loved her. Part of the process of living is the process of dying. Hospice care allows people to die with dignity."

Discovering that northeast Georgia lacked a dedicated hospice house, the Potters were motivated by an article about a significant donation from Diane and Chuck Stephens to Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) for building one. After discussions with the NGHS Foundation, they decided to make a substantial planned gift to support the project.

Last week, Live Therapeutic Musician Ellen Foster played the harp for one of our patients and her nurse. Ellen's music was so enjoyable that it made her patient smile and the nurse celebrate. Afterwards, Ellen bumped into the father of one of her harp students in our Emergency Department - Dr. Mohak Davé. Thank you for spreading joy to our patients and staff!
