Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed my open house event last night, and a huge thank you to all the sponsors that made this event possible! We had a great turnout and gave away some great prizes!
And if youāre sore after too much excitement, remember to schedule a massage!
There are a lot of self proclaimed āhealersā out there. They claim to heal your physical, spiritual, and emotional wounds. But I donāt believe the work I do directly heals my clients, and the scientific research behind massage therapy is on my side. Can I affect change? Yes and no; not directly. What I do sends signals to the clientās brain that say, āItās ok to heal. Itās safe to begin healing. This place needs more attention.ā The clientās body does the actual healing. I just nudge it along.
Do you agree? Do you disagree? Letās talk about it in the comments.
Whenever someone schedules with me, I always make sure to clarify 60 or 90 minutes, and sometimes Iām asked what I think they need.
The short answer is it depends. I can usually provide a recommendation based on what each client tells me theyāre dealing with, but if youād like to know a little more about how long of a massage you should schedule, head over to the blog on our website and read our latest blog post about this exact question. Link to our website is in our bio!
Happy National Relaxation Day! Take some time today to pause and relax. Some ideas to accomplish this:
š§š»āāļøDo some yoga
š§š¼āāļøMeditate
š§š½āāļøRead a book
š§š¾āāļøTake a nap
š§šæāāļøGet a massage!
Everyone deserves relaxation. Make sure you allow yourself to relax once in a while.
When I was 21 years old, I threw out my back helping a roommate clean his toilet. All the doctor could do for me was give me muscle relaxers, which could also lead to re-injury by inadvertently using the aggravated muscle(s) too much, causing them to go back into spasm.
Instead, I went to a massage therapist who not only worked out the tension in my back through massage but also gave me exercises and stretches to help strengthen my back and guard against re-injury.
Since then I have held the belief that a mechanical solution to a mechanical problem is often superior to a chemical solution to a mechanical problem.
That experience has contributed to my overall preference for holistic healthcare and why I decided to become a massage therapist. So if you have experienced muscle spasms, pain, or tension, I encourage you to try massage as a more holistic solution beyond muscle relaxers and pain medications.
To be clear, Iām not advocating against pain medications and muscle relaxers when there is a need. But both of those are bandaids on the problem and not actual solutions. And while massage may not be a one shot solution, it can do wonders to help the body through its own healing process.
Thank you to everyone who voted! Although I didnāt win, I made it to the top 3, and thatās pretty cool! Proud to be a finalist for Our Town Faves Gainesville 2023!
This definition comes from an article through ABMP on deep tissue massage. In school, we defined it roughly as a 7 on a 1-10 pain scale where 1 represents, āare you even touching me?ā and 10 represents the client jumping off the table because they canāt stand the pain. A 7, we said, is where youāre definitely feeling the pressure, and itās uncomfortable, even painful to a point, but you can stand the discomfort. In this zone, the pain/discomfort begins to subside, lessen, and/or become more bearable after about 30 seconds of static pressure.

Happy International Self Care Day! We end International Self Care Month with the 24th of July because of the dateās significant number pattern everywhere except the US: 24/7. Because we should be taking care of ourselves 24/7!
If you havenāt already in the last month, take some time today and create a self care routine that works FOR YOU. No excuses. Do it.
For the last few weeks weāve been talking about self care: what it looks like, how to do it, ideas, etc. So many people struggle with self care and the main excuse is time. So what have we learned?
1. Schedule self care.
2. Stay hydrated.
3. Eat (healthy) food.
4. Take a bath.
5. Spend time outside.
6. Have a creative hobby.
Iāve seen this meme over and over again, and I love it because it really is that simple. Youāre basically just a houseplant with more complicated emotions. Take care of yourself so you can take care of others at your best.
Hereās another graphic with 4 simple ways to practice self care.
You might have noticed that my posts this month keep saying some of the same things. Hereās my takeaway:
Self-care is like gardening, but youāre the plant. Make sure youāre fed, watered, have enough sunlight, and meet your creative needs. It seems so simple that we put it off for āmore importantā things, but self care is important even if itās simple. This is how you thrive. If you donāt have time for self care, youāre doing too much and you need to reevaluate your priorities.
This week, Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) celebrates its āMassage is for every BODYā week, and weāre celebrating, too!
If you have a body, then massage is for you. If you are self conscious about your body, massage may seem scary or uncomfortable. But building a relationship of trust with your massage therapist, facing that fear and discomfort, and allowing yourself to experience positive touch in the form of massage can do wonders for your body image, especially if you struggle with body dysmorphia or related body image issues.
Sometimes self care is having to learn to self soothe when things get tough. Here are 6 things you can do to begin to self-soothe when you start to feel burnt out, overwhelmed, or overstimulated.
Wondering what else you can do to take care of yourself and build a wellness routine? Hereās 4 things you can do to work towards building a wellness routine.
If you have received a massage from me, I'd love it if you left me a Google review!
Rose Quartz Wellness Spa would love your feedback Post a review to our profile on Google
Some of us have a hard time prioritizing self care because we are always serving others (*cough, cough* moms *cough*). If you have a hard time prioritizing self care, then schedule it in. Literally. Iām not kidding.
Build self care into your morning routine. Build self care into your nighttime routine. If you have PTO, stop saving it for a rainy day and TAKE IT. Create personal goals around self care and where you want to be and how you want to feel.
āBut I canāt schedule in self care because my schedule is already too full,ā you say. If your schedule is too full to schedule in a little self care, you need help. Stop trying to do everything by yourself and ask for help. You are not less for asking for help. Everybody needs help. Do it!
(Btw, massage is a great option for self care!) šš
A lot of us that struggle with self care tend to be over-thinkers, so here are 5 steps you can take to clear your mind. You donāt need to do all of them every time but as many as you can wherever you need to.
And for my fellow neurodivergents, if trying to get yourself organized just gets the anxiety gremlins moving and starting trouble, try to find something that DOES quiet that mind!
During this International Self Care Month from June 24 to July 24, Iām throwing down the gauntlet. I challenge you to take care of yourselfāREALLY take care of yourselfāfor the next 24 days (and beyond)! Hereās 12 ideas for you to get started. If you want to hold yourself accountable, I invite you to comment on this post and update us every day you do something for yourself.

Practicing mindfulness is a great way to improve your mind-body connection, reduce stress & anxiety, and practice self care. Here are 7 mindfulness exercises to try.

Many people think that secure attachment, or secure relationships, are built through finding the right person that doesnāt trigger you.
This erroneous belief keeps people stuck in fantasies about relationships that go nowhere and lead to heartbreak.
The truth is, security is built through constant mis-reads, disconnections, mismatches, and followed up with repair and reconnection.
In other words, through what I call the āconflict-repair cycle.ā
Secure relationships are built by repairing and reconnecting after two people disagree, distance, fight, argue, or mis-read each other.
Always return and repair together, and security is in fact, your reward.
.. Same for the parent-child relationship š
