I’m asked this question all the time...

It's a great question, however, there is no one-size-fits-all answer.

The simple truth is that there are no rules of thumb when it comes to applying for your social security benefits.

There are way too many variables that will determine the correct age at which you should claim your benefit.

That’s why it is so important that you work with a financial advisor who specializes in Social Security Optimization in order to nail this decision down and get it right for you and your individual circumstances!

More than 70% of adults worry about Social Security running out in their lifetime. This recent MarketWatch article discusses a few of my ideas about Social Security's chances of surviving the next few decades.

Do you want to get the biggest Social Security check possible when you retire? Who doesn't, right!?! 😊💰

If you're nearing retirement, there are still moves you can make to boost your monthly benefit. I just contributed to a great article (link in comments) from the experts at Bankrate outlining 6 smart strategies:

First, working longer can help. Your benefits are based on your highest 35 years of earnings, so adding more high-earning years boosts your average.

Second, aim to earn more if you can. The more taxes you pay into the system, the higher your benefits, up to the maximum taxable earnings cap.

Another key tip is to delay claiming benefits if it makes sense for your situation - waiting until age 70 means a significantly larger monthly check. Plus, you'll get annual cost-of-living increases applied to that bigger amount!

If you're married or divorced, you may have even more options to maximize benefits. Carefully consider things like spousal benefits and survivor benefits when making a plan.

And don't forget, it's a good idea to consult with a financial advisor who specializes in Social Security claiming strategies. With over 500 options, expert help can pay off!

Finally, if you took benefits early and regret it, you may be able to suspend your benefit temporarily to earn delayed credits and increase your payment. It's not necessarily too late!

The bottom line - with clarity and the right information, you can get the most out of Social Security. Be intentional, make informed decisions, and seek expert help if you need it.
