Learn something everyday.

In my early days of flying for the Red Cross in rural Midwest U.S., I also learned that cows face downwind. Usually around 10 knots will make them turn. The windsocks I saw were often badly tattered, they only indicated direction, not speed, so the cows helped...

If you are going to use spray foam to pack the instruments, please seal or wrap unit so the foam doesn't make a mess of the units.

Never let water sit inside an instrument. Galvanic corrosion happens fast with all the different metals inside them. This one is Beyond Economical Repair.

The customer said the unit was intermittent since new. Worked great on hot days or at lower altitudes. But when it got cold it wouldn't work. Opened and inspected, found that the power connector was not solder to circuit board. Quick little fix and the customer was very happy.

Dual fuel flow, customers fitting was over torqued into the port, sheared the braze between mounting plate and port, twisted capillary tube to bellows assembly right in two. This would have leaked fuel into the cockpit area. Also had a cracked clamp on bellows assembly to frame due to metal fatigue. Parts no longer available so had to provide a different serial number of the same manufacture we had in-stock.
They will back in the air tomorrow.

Customer stated that it may be leaking on pitot static check. Please verify operation. This is what a 50 plus year old rubber gasket looks like.

This is what happens when a wet vacuum pump fails and fills your system with engine oil. The acidic nature of old motor oil corrodes the aluminum parts and eats the painted artwork off the dial set.
The attitude gyro was the first unit inline in the system and took the brunt of the oil contamination. Again customer was informed to flush and dry system to stop further damage to replacement instrument.

Things you find inside a non functioning Manifold/ Fuel Pressure Gauge.
The blue fitting came from the manifold side. Thats engine oil that wicked up the line and blocked the calibrated damping screw and filled the bellows inside. The plastic container is nasty varnished fuel and rust flakes. It had the tiny hole in port blocked.
This is why we tell you you need to flush and dry the lines in the aircraft. If you don't the Overhauled unit will fail again shortly after installing.

To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the "National Moment of Remembrance" resolution was passed on December 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans "To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to 'Taps."

The Moment of Remembrance is a step in the right direction to returning the meaning back to the day. What is needed is a full return to the original day of observance. Set aside one day out of the year for the nation to get together to remember, reflect and honor those who have given their all in service to their country.

But what may be needed to return the solemn, and even sacred, spirit back to Memorial Day is for a return to its traditional day of observance. Many feel that when Congress made the day into a three-day weekend in with the National Holiday Act of 1971, it made it all the easier for people to be distracted from the spirit and meaning of the day. As the VFW stated in its 2002 Memorial Day address: "Changing the date merely to create three-day weekends has undermined the very meaning of the day. No doubt, this has contributed greatly to the general public's nonchalant observance of Memorial Day."

05/24/2021

This coming Monday, May 31st is Memorial Day, a day of Remembrance where we Honor those who gave their all.
Being that we are all Veterans here, we will be closed for this day. We will be open for business the next day.
