(WARP) Workshop for Art Research and Practice. WARPhaus is a studio/gallery facility leased by the School of Art and Art History. This building was renovated to the specifications of UF faculty to offer students space to create innovative interdisciplinary projects. warehouse space features high ceilings, glass block windows, large interchangeable movable walls, track lighting, and the WARPhaus Gallery (a student-run gallery space). WARPhaus gallery offers students the opportunity to work and exhibit art in a transformative, multifunctional, beautiful, raw warehouse space within walking distance to campus. The space has high ceilings and movable walls and features installation art, film screenings, elaborate performances, and student curated group exhibitions. It serves as a traditional gallery space and a highly experimental and collaborative art laboratory. The WARPhaus gallery is coordinated, curated and operated each semester by a graduate assistant under the supervision of WARP faculty. Some semesters the gallery receives additional support from upper division/graduate students, acting as an art collective, enrolled in interdisciplinary courses taught by Sean Miller. WARPhaus provides participating students the opportunity to curate exhibitions of work by fellow UF students and faculty as well as artists exhibiting nationally/internationally. Students learn about exhibition design and other professional studies associated with gallery operation, giving them valuable experience for a future career in art. WARPhaus gallery calls for proposals at the beginning of each semester and opens a new exhibition roughly every two weeks. Proposals are always accepted and considered.
