One of the countryβs largest and most-advanced 3D construction printers β as in a printer that makes homes β has crossed the Atlantic Ocean and arrived at the University of Florida. π²
Our department chair, Iris V. Rivero, has helped bring the two-story printer to campus, which was manufactured by COBOD International in Denmark and shipped in pieces to the Port of Savannah in Georgia earlier this month. It cleared U.S. Customs and pulled into UFβs East Campus in two semi-trucks this morning, and will eventually live in The Pit in Weil Hall. It will be incorporated into curriculum for multiple departments in UFβs College of Engineering! π π π
π Fun fact: Since 2022, seven of our former Ph.D. students have taken various roles working in academia throughout the United States! πΊπΈ π

We are proud to announce that Suman Chowdhury, Ph.D., will be joining our department as an Associate Professor this upcoming Fall semester! Prior to joining us, he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering at Texas Tech University. His research areas include computational biomechanics, traumatic brain injury, multiscale brain modeling, ergonomics, and helmets, exoskeleton, and prosthetic designs.

We are proud to announce that Murwan Siddig, Ph.D., is joining our department as an Instructional Assistant Professor after completing a three-year postdoctoral fellowship at RWTH Aachen University in Germany. With his distinguished record of teaching Operations Research and Analytics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, he is looking forward to contributing to the department's mission of providing a high-quality education for our students!
We are beyond excited to see that one of our Spring 2024 graduates, Franco Nazarian, was selected to the UF Hall of Fame by the UF Division of Student Life! π π π
This award, which is given to no more than 25 seniors and graduate students in a given year, is described as "the highest recognition given to student leaders at the University of Florida"! π

Dr. Robert Braswell was a major figure in our department and a significant contributor to its development until he departed UF in 1974.

UF Information Technology's Tech Byte series continues this spring with a unique, student panel event. Current undergraduates from diverse majors, including UF Industrial and Systems Engineering and UF Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering, will talk about how AI has become part of their education.
Specifically, the panelists will discuss their use of AI in coursework, how AI is showing up in their lives, and about AIβs impact on their career path and plans for the future.
