She is one of my heroes

When Potter was nearing 20 years old, she focused her talent on mushrooms. She had a Scottish nanny who told stories at night about the faeries in the woods (both the good ones and the bad ones). It was hard to ignore the variety of fungi while traipsing through the woods near her holiday homes to look for faeries.

One of her first known watercolours of a fungus, Hygrophorus puniceus, is now at the Armitt Museum. The Armitt holds many fungi illustrations done by Beatrix Potter.
