In part two of our series, our speech language pathologists continue to demonstrate the Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) procedure. FEES is a diagnostic tool used to assess swallowing disorders by passing a thin, flexible scope with a camera through the nose to get a direct view of the throat and larynx during swallowing. This time, we get a close-up view of Meghan’s arytenoids, which are essential structures in the voice box. We’ll also see if Meghan can produce a burp, providing a glimpse into her esophagus. This step helps our specialists evaluate the swallowing mechanism and identify any potential issues. Stay tuned for more insights into the fascinating world of FEES at UF Health! #SLPMonth #SpeechLanguagePathology #FEES #SwallowingDisorders #UFHealth #PatientCare #HealthcareInnovation

In this series, we’re excited to showcase our speech language pathologists demonstrating a live Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES). FEES is a procedure used to assess and diagnose swallowing disorders. During a FEES, a thin, flexible scope with a camera is passed through the nose to provide a direct view of the throat while a patient swallows different consistencies of food and liquid. This allows our specialists to closely observe and identify any issues with the swallowing mechanism. Stay tuned for the next journey down Meghan’s throat and learn more about how FEES helps our patients at UF Health! #SLPMonth #SpeechLanguagePathology #FEES #SwallowingDisorders #UFHealth #PatientCare #HealthcareInnovation
