is there cervical mucus ?
how is my sleep, energy, appetite, libido, temperature, sense of self, creativity, etc...

ovulation is not an isolated event. your body, mind, spirit, emotional and mental health is impacted. so can we just stop with the apps already. thanks for coming to our Ted Talk ;P

Membrane sweeps have become commonplace, there's no doubt about that. And so many people don't even bat an eye but this is your friendly reminder, a membrane sweep IS an intervention and it is a form of induction. ..
You may be offered this intervention at the end of pregnancy, framed as an easy way to encourage labor. A sweep consists of a provider inserting a finger around the cervix to try to lift the membranes off the cervix. ..
YOU have a CHOICE. You should always be given risks and benefits to any procedure and make an informed decision. ..
Are there more "aggressive" forms of induction? Sure. But we wanted to clear the air and remind you that a membrane sweep is an induction method too and that it's okay to say no (or be empowered with information and say yes). Pain during labor is one of the greatest anticipatory anxieties for pregnant mamas. And with the media’s scary portrayal of labor, how can we expect otherwise?

While medical options, such as epidural, are used for almost 2/3 of births and are incredible resources, they don’t come without risks - like increased length of labor, increased need for operative vaginal delivery, and more. I support all birth choices - I also believe we should all be informed about our options.

I know a lot of mamas in this community would love to have the least medicated birth possible, which is why I’m sharing the many non-pharmacologic options for reframing and reducing pain during labor. The point isn’t a “pain-free” labor but to use our bodies, breath, and inner midwife to embrace the sensations that birth our baby, and to have tools and to move through labor when it feels challenging.

Here are a few:
🌹Do the work ahead of time of unpacking cultural and personal beliefs about labor & pain
🌹Reframe the concept of pain into curiosity about the sensation that’s getting your baby born
🌹Prepare well with knowledge of labor physiology
🌹Have tools like breathwork/hypnobirthing
🌹Have support from a woman you trust - this has been found to be one of the most effective ways to reduce fear & pain in labor!
🌹Massage - used ubiquitously by midwives/doulas
🌹Counter pressure by your midwife or partner to decrease pressure and discomfort
🌹Vary your positions - squatting, hands and knees, standing, etc.
🌹Hydrotherapy - a bath, birthing pool, or shower can reduce pain and anxiety
🌹Aromatherapy can reduce the use of opioids during labor, specifically clary sage and chamomile
🌹Herbs - cramp bark, motherwort, and passionflower can support pain relief, muscle relaxation, and ease anxiety. Talk with your midwife about herbal support during your labor and delivery.

its been a minute so let me take a moment to introduce myself.

i am irina. i am a mother, a teacher, an acupuncturist, a midwife, and above all, a human trying my best to serve and connect to others.

i believe in our inner wisdom.
i believe in our intuition, our autonomy, our sovereignty, and our sacred rite of transition in maiden, mother and crone phases of life. I believe in our ability to serve and heal one another; we are medicine for each other.

i became an acupuncturist in 2014 because in Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbology and nutrition, I found healing.

i became a birth attendant in 2018 after the birth of my first child. the experience of that pregnancy and birth completely rearranged me; it tore me wide open in the heart and i felt the calling to be part of that journey for others.

i became a midwife in 2023 because birth is sacred. midwifery is spirit work; it is a sacred position of holding space for women as they step into motherhood and transform into a forever shifted version of themselves. this work can be confrontational, vulnerable, and deep, but it is, without a doubt, one of the most important rites of passage in our lives.
i feel for me, midwifery is a privilege, holding space is an honor and a calling.

my mission is simple:

yo share the message of love, healing, and kindness with you.

to help women with fertility • pregnancy • birth • postpartum • healing • living.

to support others in their autonomy and radical accountability.
