The Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere at the University of Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Lecturer, beginning Spring 2024, for the position of Assistant Director of Digital Humanities and Undergraduate Learning. This is a nine-month, non-tenure-accruing position to be renewed on a year-to-year basis, contingent on funding.
As a key part of the Centerâs intellectual life, the Assistant Director of Digital Humanities and Undergraduate Learning will develop and oversee a suite of curricular programs, workshops, and events that expand opportunities for and engagement with the digital humanities for faculty and students. The Assistant Director will work to foster collaborations with industry and thought-leaders in order to connect the work of humanities research and increase impact beyond UF. The Assistant Director will also coordinate opportunities for undergraduates by way of the Alexander Grass Humanities Undergraduate Research Fund, including building infrastructure to support humanistic undergraduate research and administering programming in CHPS and beyond.
The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (preferably in a humanities field,
completed by time of appointment). We also prefer that applicants have one to three years of experience in one or more of the following areas: non-profit organizations, professional development workshops, public-facing writing, or cultural awareness and/or diversity initiatives; have taken advanced coursework in the digital and/or public humanities; has taught and/or have mentorship experience with students in higher education; have experience creating partnerships between higher education and non-academic entities.

Using two disease events as focal points â the emergence of malaria in the 17th century and the COVID-19 pandemic, Katherine McNamaraâs research in Ecuador leverages archival and anthropological methods to explore how relationships between people and medicinal plants evolve as health ecologies shift.

In this presentation, Dr. Anton Matytsin explores the origins of the modern discipline of history and the emergence of Enlightenment cosmopolitanism by examining the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres, a learned society in Old Regime France that rethought the development of civilizations, moving away from biblical chronology and incorporating non-European cultures.

This talk by Dr. Rodrigo Borges critically assesses the conventional philosophical wisdom that the examples introduced into the philosophical imagination by Edmund Gettier in 1963 shattered the ancient Platonic definition of knowledge as justified true belief.
