Two years ago, Alexandria approved our Accessory Dwelling Unit ordinance.

Since that time, our staff has approved 40 ADUs, 27 of which were detached units and 13 were internal to existing structures.

Most of these units are in some phase of construction.

Our amazing clients are converting their garage into an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) for their parents who relocated here to be close with their children and grandchildren.

With home prices as high as they are locally, converting this garage was the most affordable way to move close to family and maintain independence and a separate home to live in.
