Plyometric exercises are the last stage of rehab for our athletes with calf, Achilles, and lower extremity injuries. These exercises build strength and improve the capacity for speed in the hips, thighs, glutes, and leg muscles involved with quick loading and unloading, or acceleration and deceleration movements.
The first movement involves jumping up from the floor with both feet and landing on both feet on a stable surface about 18” to 20” off the ground. The landing should be soft and controlled. This exercise works on guiding movement through deceleration as the feet land on the elevated surface.
The second stage involves jumping up with both feet, landing back down on both feet, followed by an immediate jump with both feet again.
The last stage of this series is performed by jumping up with both feet, landing back down on both feet followed by an immediate hop on one foot.
Do these movements to build robust Achilles, calf, and leg muscle strength, or as the final phase in rehab post-injury.

Plyometric exercises are part of the last stage of rehab for our athletes with Achilles tendon or calf muscle injuries. These exercises build strength and the propensity for speed in the leg muscles and tendons involved with quick loading and unloading, or acceleration and deceleration.
The first exercise involves jumping off both feet and landing on both feet simultaneously, working quick acceleration (muscle lengthening and shortening through resistance) followed by quick deceleration (muscle shortening and lengthening through resistance).
The second progression is jumping and landing on both feet followed by an immediate jump again with both feet.
The third progression is jumping off both feet and landing on one foot.
The final progression is jumping off both feet and landing on one foot followed by an immediate jump on the same foot.
Incorporate these exercises into your routine to build robust Achilles tendon and calf muscle strength to prevent injuries, or as the last phase of your rehab post injury.

Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, can be a difficult condition to treat. Once pain is present, tissue damage has already set in. Aside from avoiding the activity that caused it altogether, there is not much that can be done to speed up the healing process.
The exercises demonstrated in this video focus on building strength in the forearm muscles and tendons connecting to the elbow through eccentric loading movements. In other words, the muscles/tendons are stretched from a shortened position into a lengthened position under load. Studies have shown that this kind of exercise produces increased loading capacity of tendons, which is precisely where the problem lies with a tennis elbow.
Give these exercises a try and see if they heal your chronic tennis elbow pain. Start with just a few reps of each movement and add more as you are able. You can do them every other day so you have a rest day and don’t overdo it.
Comment below if you found these to be helpful.

One of the most satisfying things we get to do is help our pro athletes get back from an injury and return them to play quickly. It's very gratifying to know we are making a difference in his or her livelihood. We wish Arthur Gea, rising ATP pro, making his second appearance at the US Open in New York next week all the best. Viva la France!

Here's a great way to stretch tight hip/groin muscles as well as strengthen weak hip adductors using a kettlebell. Hold the stretch for 10 seconds by letting the weight push your elbows into your inner thighs. Strengthen weak hip adductors by squeezing your inner thighs together. Give it try!

Dry needling is a great treatment option for patients with myofascial pain and trigger points. While the tools used are the same, it is not acupuncture. Insertion of needles without medication (hence "dry") into tight muscles can stimulate a relaxation response, thereby reducing pain and restoring function. Dr. Park is certified in dry needling and can incorporate it into your treatment when indicated.
Congratulations to Dr. Park and all the competitors who participated in the 2022 IBJJF Washington DC Open this past weekend!
Shoulder mobility exercise: a dowel rod, pvc pipe, or resistance band are great tools to improve mobility in the shoulders. These movements allow for the glenohumeral joint to move in multiple planes. Perform a few reps throughout the day when you have been sitting at your desk for too long.
Our office will be closed on Monday, May 30 for Memorial Day. Please enjoy a safe holiday with your family and friends. We salute all those who have served past and present!
Our office will be closed April 11 to April 17 for Spring Break. We will resume normal office hours on Monday April 18. Enjoy a safe and happy spring break with your families!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!! We hope you enjoy the time with your families. We will be closed all of next week except for Tues Dec 28, from 10AM to 3 PM. Normal office hours will resume on Mon Jan 3.
