Today is Noah’s last day with the Habitat and Stewardship program here at Artist Boat. A rising senior at Texas A&M University at Galveston majoring in Marine Sciences, Noah has been a huge help around the Coastal Heritage Preserve this summer, cutting invasive trees, repairing fence lines, and helping with endangered bird surveys. Thank you for your hard work and good luck with your studies!

Interested in learning about the different ocean zones of the Gulf of Mexico? The mural at RYSS (Raul Yzaguirre schools for success) North East STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) academy is the perfect place to start! Check out their amazing work!

This educational mural, which was painted by students in NE STEM's summer school programming and Artist Boat's Ocean STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) residency, visually communicates six zones of the ocean. Student's learned all about contour line, composition, and color theory to prepare them for the completion of the approximately 80 square foot mural!

The mural is coming together for RYSS North East STEM Academy and Artist Boat’s Ocean STEAM residency!

Students learned all about contour line, composition, color, and the zones of the ocean to prepare them to create an 80 square foot mural in their cafeteria! This mural includes the 6 zones of the ocean, and each student in the program helped with painting, drawing, and planning the composition.

Check out their amazing depictions of marine life found in the aphotic zone of the ocean!

Organizational Overview

Artist Boat was founded in 2003 as a 501(c)(3) with the purpose of protecting our Gulf Coast through land conservation and fun, educational, inspiring adventures that spark creativity, awareness and action.

Artist Boat wants everyone who experiences the Texas Gulf Coast to value and protect its natural beauty. Since their inception, over 100,000 participants have helped bring 40,000 students to estuaries by kayak, foot, or vessel; created over 50+ public art works for campuses and communities; conserved over 700+ acres on west Galveston Island forming the Coastal Heritage Preserve and creating a place for the future Gulf Coast Environmental Education Center; restored over 50 acres of dunes and prairies to assure recovery of these ecosystems following Hurricane Ike; formed the Bucket Brigade comprised of a Marine Debris Task Force, interpretive tours, beautified buckets for trash, recycle centers, and more on Galveston beaches; and provided a 1,000+ teachers with professional development and place-based curriculum for the classroom.
