Good news for home buyers! 30-year mortgage rates are falling thanks to the sharp drop in Treasury yields over the last few weeks. The fixed rate on a 30-year loan fell to 6.55% - its lowest level since April 2023 and nearly 1.4% below its recent peak last October. The drop spurred a big uptick in refinancing activity (+16% w/w) to its highest level in nearly two years. This is a welcome relief for consumers and if sustained, could mark a turning point for the housing market.

Timing the market has been difficult for investors throughout history. If an investor has missed the best market days, it has significantly weighed on performance. Missing the best 20 days of the S&P500 over the last 50 years would cause your annualized return to dwindle from 8.3% (invested the entire time) to 5.4%. As we continue to hit record highs, it is key to remember that staying invested is more important than trying to time the market.

"Presidents get far too much credit, and far too much blame, for the health of the U.S. economy and the state of the financial markets. There are many other variables that determine economic growth and market returns and, frankly, presidents have very little influence over them." - Darrell Spence, Capital Group Economist
