During the SW KS Chambers Night Out In Topeka, Associate Director Jacie Butler and Senior Community Relations Manager, Vickie Harshbarger enjoyed visiting with area Representatives and Senators about what was happening in Topeka. "We're so glad the State of Kansas is opening new funding to help reduce the number of people on the waitlist for IDD services. Please write to your representatives and the Governor to let them know adequate funding for services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities needs to remain a priority in our state."

February is , a time to learn more about important historical figures and events that, unfortunately, may not have been included in our textbooks. This month is also an opportunity for us to recognize and learn more about Black disability rights advocates–past and present–who have helped shape the disability community we know today. Throughout the month, we will share information about those who have worked toward true inclusion for all.
First, here’s an article from The Center for Learner Equality about several important Black disability rights activists: https://www.centerforlearnerequity.org/news/black-history-month-recognizing-black-disability-rights-activists/

We are saddened by the loss of a pillar of our community. A long time neighbor and friend too many Cecil's down to earth approach to coming along side and giving a hand up will be missed. His philanthropic investments will bring many opportunities for years to come. Prayers go out to the O'Brate family and all those whose lives he enriched.

At Mosaic, one of our core values is faithfulness. We honor our legacy by staying grounded in what matters and doing the right thing even when no one’s looking. As we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today, we recommit to being faithful, advocating for inclusion and rejecting discrimination—not only for the people we support, but also for anyone affected by racial inequality.

Mosaic of Garden City would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Liz Scheopner. Liz was truly dedicated to supporting local non-profits and made it her personal mission to help as many people in our community as she could.
Liz has been a valued volunteer, donor and friend over the last 9 1/2 years to the Mosaic mission. Offering employment at Schoepners Water Conditioning and inviting others to learn about all the services offered to those in our community.
Mosaic was just one or the many organizations that she touched through her generous philanthropy. She has left an amazing legacy in Garden City. (Photo credit to Western Kansas Community Foundation). We could not possibly thank her enough for all she has done to make our community a better place for those in need. She will truly be missed.
