This Memorial Day weekend, 316 American Patriots who were killed at the Battle of Waxhaws, aka Buford’s Massacre, were remembered. On May 29, 1780 the Patriot troops under Abraham Buford, knew they were overwhelmed and surrendered. Banastre Tarleton, the brutal British Commander ignored their surrender and allowed them to be butchered. This is where he gained the nickname Bloody Tarleton. Many loyalists were so disgusted by his actions, they actually changed sides. This is also where the patriot battle cry “Remember Waxhaws!” came from. A lot of these men were with the Virginia militia and tradition on this yearly commemoration, Virginia soil is tossed onto the mass graves. Memorial Day is to remember American soldiers who died fighting for our country. The Battle of the Waxhaws is one of the most gruesome massacres on US soil. Thank you Lynne for representing our Chapter.
As Memorial Day weekend kicks off, don't forget to fly your flags! -Jennifer

Some pictures from last night at Kings Mountain National Military Park's First Friday Fires event. Not many folks showed up because it had rained a little before, but we had fun. I got to make a hand dipped candle over the fire! FUN. -Jennifer
