Assistant Coach Gentry

Kenyatta D. Gentry is a 2nd generation Lotus Self Defense practitioner with a 4th degree black belt and over 20 years of experience. He began training in 1988 with his father, Jack J. Gentry, in Charlotte, NC.
Lotus Self Defense, a mixed martial art combining Muay Thai Boxing, Kenpo, Judo, and Aikido, originated in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. Kenyatta has competed in numerous martial arts tournaments, earning the title of United States Junior Karate Circuit “Competitor of the Year” for the Southeastern Division from 1996-1998. He has taught self-defense to security staff, conducted seminars at the Battered Women’s Shelter, and facilitated martial arts summer camps at local Presbyterian Churches. Recently, he was selected as an assistant coach for the
2024-2025 US Martial Arts Team. Kenyatta co-founded the LOTUS Martial Arts Academy in Charlotte, NC, and founded Dragonfly Martial Arts & Fitness in Gastonia, NC.
