Baby Bean was returned through no fault of his own. Some parts of rescue are really difficult to bear witness to and seeing the sadness, confusion, and fear in an animal's eyes is certainly one of them.
You'd never know all that Bean has overcome to be here and we just know the right family is out there waiting to find him.
UPDATE: FOSTER LINED UP and back up FOSTER TOO. THANK YOU to these HEROES. She will be leaving the shelter tomorrow--but at this point be in foster care through the shelter. She still needs a family to adopt her so if you see this post, please consider adoption and contact the shelter. If anything changes We will keep you posted--and let you know updates. THANKS FOR ALL THE SHARES. And as we mentioned below, please no negativity or calls to the shelter unless you are looking to adopt this dog. We've adjusted the wording of the post in order to avoid any such calls. Thank you.
URGENT PLEA- Shelter is going to euthanize. This dog needs a hero THIS weekend. An owner we used to help surrendered her dog to Chemung Animal Shelter in Elmira NY. Because we used to help this dog, the shelter reached out to us to let us know that she is not doing well in the shelter environment and is breaking down due to the stress of missing her family and being in a kennel. They are going to euthanize this dog. PLEASE DO NOT hijack this post to talk about the shelter--- or dogs being put down ---or even owners surrounding their dogs. THIS POST IS A LAST DITCH EFFORT and most rescues are full-- to see if anyone is looking to adopt and will go and adopt this dog and work with her and give her a home - this is a three year old, healthy Jack Russell - so that means she is active and smart, but also apparently very stressed out now. When we knew her she was sweet and lived with two cats she adored. Since she has deteriorated: what is she like now, we can’t say for sure. But if you have it in your heart and your abilities to go save her, we wanted to put out a plea. You can call the shelter to get more information on her if interested. We will keep you posted on any other developments, but she still needs a family, so please consider adopting.
Again, please do not call the shelter to harass them. The goal is save this dog's life only. Phone number and address —if you can be Fancy’s hero, she is running out of time. She needs a hero today or tomorrow. The Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA is located at 2435 St Route 352, Elmira, NY 14903. Their phone number is (607) 732-1827
We can't believe this sweet girl still hasn't been adopted.
All rescues are struggling with adoptions. Even young, friendly kittens, once easily placed into homes, have been lingering in shelters with rates of adoptions virtually stagnant. This has a cascade effect, as it also reduces the ability of rescues to say yes to the next cat or kitten in urgent need. So many messages and requests, so many awaiting help and rescue. It is one of the most difficult parts of rescue. The ones you cannot help never leave your mind.
So if you are thinking of adding a companion animal to your family, please consider adoption, please consider a local shelter or rescue. And know that you are saving two lives and making an immeasurable difference.
For every day you struggle to continue there are others that remind you why you persist. Welcome home, Remus.
There are not words to adequately express our gratitude to Dr. Litteer and the entire staff of Perry Vet for the countless lives, like Remus', saved as a result of their dedication, compassion, and skill; to our followers and supporters for enabling us to fight for lives like his when we otherwise could not; and to the people of this neighborhood who saw a cat in desperate need and worked together to find help for him. Thank you for reminding us of all the good that exists in this world. Thank you for saving the most deserving life.

Without question, help came to this cat without a moment to spare. Tangled in plastic fencing for nearly five days in the cold and rain, he was hypothermic, dehydrated, and exhausted; his neck and arm strangulated by plastic and his wounds, and eventually his entire body, covered in thousands and thousands of maggots. It would take over four hours for our friends at Headed For Furever, Inc. to warm him and painstakingly work to remove them all.
The pain, fear, and hopelessness he must have experienced over these five days physically pains us. And is the harsh reality that faces companion animals who are abandoned and discarded. Please, please never leave them to suffer such a fate.
We are still in disbelief that he survived that first day after intake. But cats like Leopold are the reason we persist, the reason we fight. They are resilient and they deserve to know that a better life exists and awaits them.
Leopold is in again tomorrow morning with the incredible staff of Perry Vet for wound debridement and further evaluation of his injuries. If you would like to contribute to the most deserving second chance and ongoing veterinary care for Leo, donations of any amount are appreciated beyond measureand can be made online at www.paypal.me/hearthsidecats, Venmo , or by mail to P.O. Box 282, Geneseo NY, 14454.

**UPDATE - 😻🩷HOME SAFE
**MISSING CAT** - Geneseo, NY
This adorable boy is Daniel, and he's been missing for about a week now, last seen on Center St near Elm. He's only 18 months old and is neutered. He's very loved and missed. Thanks for sharing!
Oh, hello Remus.❤️
Pupdate: he is going into foster tomorrow!
It's a sad time for many animals. Unwanted. Abandoned. Discarded like yesterday's trash. Such was the case with Tye. Someone in his life drove to the Reservation, tied him to a concrete block and drove away, never looking back. We know based on Tye's sweet boy deneanor, that he likely watched them drive away, slightly confused by his situation, but no doubt hopeful that they were coming back for him.
It's been 30 days and by now, he surely knows they're not coming. And this boy is struggling with Shelter life. People and dog social, all Tye wants is to be with humans.
A shelter can be a good stepping stone between their past lives and their futures, but for some dogs, it's torment. For Tye, it's torment. Some decompensate in a shelter. Last night, Tye was curled up in a ball on his bed and barely looked at his caretakers when they stopped to "tuck him in" for the night. He's usually an exuberant and happy guy. We fear what an extended stay would do to him.
Please help Tye by sharing his post. He deserves to have a quiet, comfortable place to lay his head and for someone to promise him he'll never be abandoned again.
With our fourth and final clinic of the season with our friends at Headed For Furever, Inc. approaching, we sat down to try and figure out how we could make a meaningful impact.
That same afternoon, we had received a plea to help an elderly woman caring for strays on her property with spay and neuter services. When we arrived, it was immediately apparent that everything she has is shared with these cats; healthy, happy cats and their kittens she considers family, but simply could not afford to fix as they appeared. She had searched for help, unsuccessfully, and told us tearfully what a gift it was that we had knocked on her door.
Our hearts were heavy leaving and have been since; seeing and thinking of a senior giving all that she has and going without to bring kindness and comfort to forgotten strays. Along with spaying and neutering these cats, we would like to help alleviate some of the financial strain by purchasing canned and dry food to bring back with them.
If you would like to help contribute toward the purchase of 9 Lives and Friskies dry and canned food, donations of any amount are so appreciated and can be made online at www.paypal.me/hearthsidecats, Venmo , or by mail to P.O. Box 282, Geneseo NY, 14454.
Thank you to Dr. Lawler and the wonderful staff of Lawler Veterinary Essentials for the invaluable services provided to help rescues, individuals, and animals within our community and especially for their efforts at providing access to affordable spay and neuter services. You are so appreciated.
With a temperature of 104.4° and ulceration of the tongue making it too painful to eat in spite of pain medication, Remus is back with the caring staff of Perry Vet. There are some who just make your heart ache, who deserve to find a kindness and comfort they've spent their entire lives without. Come on, Reemie. We love you.
And because you can never seem to get through one emergency before another finds you, we received an urgent message to help a barn cat whose tail had been partially severed and degloved, causing nearly the entire tail to necrose. In spite of the pain and discomfort Little Bit must be experiencing, this girl was so calm and sweet. Cats are such incredible beings.
Thank you to Dr. Litteer, Amber Yeoman, and the amazing staff of Perry Vet for working through their lunch to amputate Little Bit's tail and for boarding Remus for monitoring and care. Thank you also to their amazing receptionists for not blocking our many phone calls, including those that come through at 7:01, the minute they open. You are all appreciated beyond measure.
We truly love this guy.
Remus is the epitome of resilience and hope and what makes rescue so meaningful to us. Thank you for every donation that has enabled us to give him comfort, desperately needed medical care, and the second chance he deserves. And for every like, share, and kind word of encouragement and healing. We are so grateful.
We would also like to express our sincerest gratitude to the people of this neighborhood; caring people who saw a cat in dire need and showed him kindness while working to find him help. Because often, what lies between them and hope is only you. Our sincerest thanks as well to Dr. Litteer and the amazing staff of Perry Vet for going above and beyond and working the neediest into a completely full schedule without hesitation.
