PERSEVERANCE Sometimes attaining a bucket list trip requires perseverance.

Over a year ago, new clients approached me with a dream of riding the Ghan railway from the top end of Australia, through the Outback down to Adelaide. They had already attempted to do this trip in the past, not once, but twice; however, due to circumstances beyond their control, their trip had been canceled both times.

Today they board the train in Platinum class to embark on the journey they have long dreamed of. I was able to help them round out that trip with other epic experiences making it a 20-day adventure tailored specifically to them and their interests.

What’s your bucket list trip and how can I help you achieve that?

I help busy people plan extraordinary travel.

I help young adult travelers find fun and adventurous tours in Australia and New Zealand that cater specifically to people their own age.

Traveling in small groups, these escorted tours give the peace of mind of having accommodations, transport, & many local meals taken care of, while allowing lots of flexibility in excursion choices and leisure time.

Guided by young, fun local experts, the goal of these tours is a vibrant, immersive experience.

Yes please! The Whitsunday islands are a collection of 74 continental islands off the coast of Queensland. Protected from large swells by the Great Barrier Reef, this location is ideal for sailing, scuba, snorkeling, and relaxing on secluded beaches. Take a helicopter ride to experience it’s pristine beauty from the sky.

As a travel advisor, I love it when my clients request to build an itinerary, in part or whole, around an interest of theirs. From cult movies to food, hobbies to family history, sports to religion, I have done a LOT of personalization over the years. What piques your interest and how can I help make your travel experiences more personalized?

The Haka is a type of ancient ceremonial dance indigenous to the Maori people of New Zealand. This posture dance includes rhythmic body slapping and shouting, foot stamping, vigorous movements, and tongue protrusions. Often thought of as a war dance, the mythology of the Maori indicates it’s more about the celebration of life.

Ask me how to experience the Haka on your trip to New Zealand.

Someone once asked me ‘Why travel with little kids? They won’t remember it’. I beg to differ. I think that’s like saying ‘Why read to or play with your kids? They won’t remember it’.

Childhood is ephemeral but the connections you make with your kids and the memories you gather as a family when you travel often last a lifetime. Will travel with kids always go smoothly? Heck no, but often the best experiences in life come from the unexpected.

I help families find tours or design itineraries based on their specific needs and wants. Families with teenagers have different needs to families with little ones. Maybe the grandparents are traveling too or a group of families are traveling together. Whatever your needs, I can help make your family’s Australian journey truly memorable.

Another great client photo!

When my clients visited Melbourne, I’d encouraged them to visit the Block Arcade, a boutique shopping arcade right in the CBD. This historic and architecturally beautiful building has an extraordinary mosaic floor (zoom in) and an impressive glass domed roof that fills the space with natural light. With its cafes and famous tea room, the Block Arcade is quintessential Melbourne.

Most people travel to Australia and New Zealand to experience the stunning natural environments, unique wildlife, biodiversity, and cultural heritage.

While ‘sustainable travel’ sounds like a hippie buzz phrase, in my mind it simply means providing ethical tourism experiences that support the notion of protecting the appeal and vitality of those experiences for the future.

Many of the tourism businesses I choose to work with LOVE what they do. They see the value in providing interesting and immersive experiences for travelers while also understanding that they are stewards of the environment, communities, and cultures in which they operate.

Here are a few examples of how I like to incorporate sustainable travel practices into my clients’ itineraries:
~ using a qualified guide to help clients experience the secret lives of koalas in their natural environment but in a non-intrusive manner
~ using a fully-owned and operated indigenous business to introduce clients to Aboriginal fishing and hunting techniques
~ including a treetop walk into an ancient forest where the walkways have been designed to protect the ecosystem
~ using tour operators on the Great Barrier Reef that not only provide an incredible snorkeling experience but teach travelers about the work scientists and volunteers are doing to protect and regenerate the reef

If you have a strong interest in sustainability and conservation, ask me to design your itinerary as such; you’ll have plenty of great options to choose from!

Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?

Today I spent the day meeting face-to-face with over 20 New Zealand suppliers of travel including tourism agencies, wholesalers, tour operators, and hotels.

Attending these kind of events is invaluable to the quality of my business. The tourism landscaping is ever-changing and in order for me to give my clients the best intel for their trips, I need to constantly educate myself on what’s new.

Today, I was able to walk away with really specific and fresh ideas to fill in some gaps for current client itineraries. I also came away with some new destinations, hotels, and excursions up my sleeve for future clients.

Most importantly, I have developed new relationships with suppliers of travel that are fully motivated to help me help you have the best New Zealand experiences possible.

When should I start planning my trip to Australia and/or New Zealand?

I get asked this question a lot and here are my general rules:

12-18 months in advance:
If you have ‘high demand’ or ‘low inventory’ items on your wish-list, the more advance planning time, the better. This is particularly true if you plan on traveling in high season. By planning 12-18 months in advance of departure date, I have been able to secure my clients exactly what they want (swipe to see):
* rooms with gorgeous views in boutique luxury properties
* international tee-times at sought after golf courses
* platinum service suites on rail journeys
* very small group regulated eco-tourism experiences
* reservations at high demand restaurants
* popular tours and cruises

6-12 months in advance:
If you are flexible in your dates and are open to options, this time frame allows you to plan a great trip, usually getting most of what you want in your itinerary

3-6 months in advance:
Depending on season of travel, this timeframe often poses restrictions on what is available for booking and usually requires some compromise.

< 3 months prior to departure:
Rarely do I agree to plan a trip in this timeframe. I want my clients to have the best experiences possible and great travel planning takes time!

Last minute bookings:
For very good reasons, last minute bookings are not part of my business model.

ADRENALINE If the extreme and the extraordinary is your thing then Australia and New Zealand have some unique experiences to get your adrenaline pumping.

In Australia, climb the Sydney Harbor Bridge; dive with Great White Sharks (really!); helicopter to rugged & remote Outback regions; skydive over the Great Barrier Reef; snorkel alongside the whale shark; swim face-to-face with a saltwater crocodile; or, do the world's largest dam abseil.

Home of adventure tourism, New Zealand has plenty of exciting and thrilling one-of-kind experiences. Zip lining; canyoning; heli-skiing; bungy jumping; caving; rafting; jet boating; and skydiving are just a few activities to clip off your bucket list.

Some options are seasonal but with the right planning, I’ll help you to get your heart racing.
