The transformation has begun! These are the first 3 taproom tables upgraded to river tables with blue mica colored epoxy.

The existing table tops get routed for the river, epoxy poured, drum sanded to remove the epoxy overpour & remove the original color & finish, new stain applied and then 3 coats of Odie's oil that provides a waterproof finish.

The design of the rivers (although random in nature) begin & end at the same place on each table top. This way, when the tables are lined up end-to-end, it will appear that the river runs continuously from table to table! A unique, awesome look to an already awesome taproom!

Dropped off the coffee table and mums today to the country club. The AHP annual fundraising gala is tomorrow. They are grateful for the donation items from Reclaimed (mums were donated by L&M Greenhouse) and we're ecstatic how well they all turned out. The bigger items are part of the silent auction and the smaller ones get bundled together (sometimes with gift baskets) for the raffle.
Good luck AHP and specifically Tamika, Jaime and MJ! Hope your fundraiser is a huge success. Its so good to see such a worthy cause succeed!

Haven't done a lawn display in awhile and couldn't miss an opportunity for a friend's 70th bday. Have u seen my more elaborate lawn display posts and wondering why this one wasn't over the top? You're right. My pref woulda been to go over the top on this one but I just learned a few days ago that it was #70! So, a little scrambling, a little change in priorities, a little work, a little coordination with the family and we got it done!!!
And yes, the bday guy was surprised and was super happy with his personalized bday display!

The grandkids like to help build stuff with their dad, so I thought "lets make something that they can see/use every day". Nightstand came to mind - one for each of their bedrooms. Papa did a lot of the prep work before going to MI so our short time there wouldn't be making 2 tables from scratch. Packed up all the materials and All the tools needed. The boys did help a little and are Ecstatic over their own table! Mission accomplished.

The build was fairly simple. The top is a piece of bowling alley, the shelf is barn wood. They're sturdy enough where I can sit on them without and concerns!

The pics below aren't 6 of the same table but 3 of each. J started to use his and B hadn't before I got the pics of his.

Delivered a barrel table recently to a new customer. Finished with a clear shellac to give the wood just a hint of color and 3 coats Rubio oil for protection. The Rubio will provide some resistance to water which is perfect for a basement bar!

The spalting (the black squiggly lines) was jaw dropping on this cookie!!!!

Made and installed some tap handles from the same live edge wood that's in the brewery. They're the skinny ones, not the t-shape logo branded ones.

Another conference-table-sized barrel table. Stop by BC with a few friends and enjoy some beers around it!

Photos from Reclaimed Treasures LLC's post 01/13/2022

Delivered another barrel table to Riverlands this week. Its a sister/brother to the other super large top we did a few years ago. We called it a conference table is was so big - approx 52x56! This one is a little smaller but not much. They placed it next to the other "conference table" in the taproom. If you're there, try to sit at one of these big barrel tables and stretch out with 6-8 friends!

how many steps to make a cutting board? lets see... if you don't want to see the details, stop reading and look at the pics...

really pretty happy about how this first-time project worked out! would def do more in the future...

1. scour craigslist & FB to find some black walnut wood
2. find some live edge pieces and buy em
3. the tree was just cut a coupla weeks before so set up the kiln in the garage to dry out the wood
A. took about 7 days at approx 110 degrees with many, many times flipping the pieces so they can get somewhat evenly dry
4. temp kiln taken down and now the wood sits off to the side to find available time And the inspiration for the final look
5. bingo! found a video about how to do the 3D effect
6. get to bull valley so they can get the boards planed to the same same thickness And cut a square cut in the boards... this step will allow me later on to rip strips using my table saw
7. get the boards lined up to see how many cutting boards i might be able to get outta this black walnut
8. crap on a cracker - not Anywhere near what i thought i'd have...
9. go to Plan B: buy oak, mahagony and hickory boards from menards so i can get my goal of 3 finished cutting boards
10. now play with the patterns i want showing some darks & lights... doing a dry fit here so i can get the same pattern in each of the 3 cutting boards
11. another Plan B: instead of gluing up all 3 cutting boards, lets just glue One up and see how that one goes first
12. board 1 is glued & clamped up... board strips are 2" wide by approx 1.5" thick resulting in an approx 15x20 rectangle
13. now the video i watched didn't show the detail for this next step - cutting the rectangle on an angle... then when the rectangle is all cut, you flip over every other board and this is supposed to give you the 3D... i didn't know the angle so i guessed... not 3D but a really nice & different effect! finished that board and used these learnings before i started the glue up on the 2nd & 3rd boards
14. i called in a "guy" and he helped me figure out the critical angle - we settled on 22.5 degrees
15. now i could do the glue up for the 2nd & 3rd boards... next, i took a deep breathe and made the 22.5 degree cuts on both rectangles
16. kept all the strips in their relative positions, flipped over every other strip and viola the 3D effect i wanted!!!! yeah & whew!
17. one last glue upcut the 2 boards to their final dimensions - 14 by 20 by 1.5" thick
18. use some special wood filler (special because it has to be food safe products) to fill in any joints
19. sanding and then a final sand with 1000 grit
20. use the Reclaimed Treasures branding iron to "sign" the bottom 5-6 coats of mineral oil on top, bottom & sides
21. screw in a set of silicone foot pads and they're done!

A river table at Riverlands? Sounds perfect and looks even better!

We took one of their existing tables, sanded it down to bare wood, cut the river shape out, filled with epoxy with blue mica, stained a nice brown to look similar to the other tables, sealed with 3 coats of gloss poly, reattach the base and move it back into the taproom.

For me, this table ranks right up there with the barrel table with the conference table size cookie on it!

With work on Shuffle Games keeping us busy, Reclaimed work is fit in where we can. Its sooooooooooo nice to have a customer who is super flexible on a delivery date!

A good friend asked me earlier this year if we could make a certain kind of tray. Definitely! She showed the pics of one she was going to buy. With some limited countertop space, she wanted to use the tray to sit on her stove so she had more workspace. I kinda coined it as a "stove top tray" - don't know if there's a real name for them. She didn't want a cutting board - just an additional work surface.

She had a board that would be used for the dark strips in the tray. Its African Mahogany and its gorgeous and its hard as a rock! The lighter boards are an American mahogany and some oak.

Making it should have taken 1-2 weeks at best. Well that was before we found that the African mahogany board had more twists and turns than Lombard St in San Fran! It was a challenge but the end result is fabulous! The wood really, really popped when we applied the food safe mineral oil - 3-4 applications of it.

Our friend was over the moon with her new stove tray/serving tray/anything she wants to call it!!!!!!

Always like to make something new. A friend was looking for a new bags game (aka, co****le) to replace a well used one that he had. I offered and he took me up on it.

Wanted this to be as weather proof/resistant as possible. Started with a piece of marine grade plywood, painted it with an exterior gloss, added a couple of plastic feet on the lower edge and glued on some heavy vinyl pads on the bottom of the legs. That should do it.

The last pic is the game at its new home. Leaning on the house just waiting to be played for the first time!

Loved the way it turned out and so did he!

We did Another mantle and this time for a customer in Elgin. This one was a little different as we were capping an existing mantle. Easier than the last one but had its own challenge as the existing mantle had a step-down effect that the customer wanted to keep.

Before & Afters below. It turned out fantastic! And its not just us saying that - also from the general contractor (who brought us in to do it) and the customer.

Mantles seem to be a "thing" now!!!!

When it rains, it pours - 2 posts in 2 days! Happens that way sometimes.

Installed a mantle for a customer today. It went pretty easy and that was due to doing a dry run hanging it on my garage wall. That made today's real installation go very smoothly.

Its roughly 90" long by 6" tall by 11" deep. We first located the studs that we would use to drive in some beefy screws that would support the interior frame and leveled it. Once that was solid (and it was!!!), we slid the mantle over, used some 2" finish nails on the underside to secure it, caulk the edges where it met the wall and it was done.

Jim & I were pretty darn happy with it especially how it fit around the curved columns on each side of the fireplace. The customer? She was over the moon - loved it!!!

My sister-in-law asked if I could do something to replace the teacher apples she & other teachers have in their school. I thought about using some 1" thick 100 year old barn wood, mocked one up, showed it to her and she said to go for it. The finished size was about 7" by 7".

She got them today and totally loved them! Whew. I thought they looked good but her reaction was the only one that counted.

Have needed to replace our mailbox for awhile. A looooooong while!

I've got a woodworkers mag and they had a pic of one that caught my eye. Its made using timber framing techniques meaning no glue or screws - just mortise & tenon joints secured by dowels.

Now their pic was nice but it was still missing something. Did some google searches and found what it needed. The support brace has an additional support.

When you're going to do that much work for "a mailbox", you gotta make it look the part with the proper black metal mailbox and house numbers. The posts are 4x4 cedar and, as of now, are untreated. Picked cedar because of its natural ability to withstand the elements. In the future, might apply some marine varnish - but I might just go with the weathered look.

Since I've worked with barn wood for years and appreciating how barns are constructed, it was nice to give timber framing a try. Pretty happy with the results!

This small wine barrel end table was delivered late last week. Do you know what's better than a customer? A very happy Repeat customer!
We sanded all the wood, stained it and then 3 coats of poly. The bands were sanded clean to remove the stains & scratches, polished and then used the appropriate sized round headed screws to secure to the barrel. Put some feet on with pads to protect the gorgeous wood floors. Lay some wine corks on the top and top it all off with 24" beveled edge tempered glass!
Thanks again, Karin & Josh!

We finished a job today at a customer's house. The job had 5 different projects: 1) barn wood trim around the fireplace, 2) a drink ledge - 2" thick barn wood 8" wide by 8ft long, 3) three barn wood shelves mounted with black pipe, 4) a removable cover for the stairwell, 5) a 5ft by 5ft bar with a live-edge hickory top flood coated with epoxy, a hickory cutting board, aged corrugated metal roof sections trimmed with barn siding, shelves under the bar for storage and a black pipe footrest on the bar front.

One of our favorite & best projects so far. Annnnnd, the couple were ecstatic about the finished work!

Amanda & Anthony, enjoy your new space and especially that awesome bar!!! Jim & I would love to come back and enjoy a beer/drink bellying up to that new bar!

We haven't done a lawn display in awhile. Guess there hasn't been too many milestone bdays!

Stay-at-home, tho, has impacted families and really hit high school seniors hard in terms of no prom and no traditional graduation. We had an idea and passed it by a neighbor mom to see if she would like a customized lawn display to recognize her daughter. The mom couldn't say Yes fast enough!

We collaborated on the look & design of the display. We were able to leverage a few elements from previous displays into this one. Display includes: 1 large Tik Tok sign, 2 long banners, 50 small lawn signs, the puffy letters (Congrats Sam) and a handful of rockets.

Well today was Deployment Day! Kris & Brian (the grad's parents) and Betsy & Paul (our neighbors) got everything up in place in about an hour. Rain this week? No prob - our lawn displays are always designed to withstand the rain & wind.

Sam (the grad), congrats on graduation! We hope that you can still celebrate this milestone. Your parents weren't gonna let your achievement pass quietly!

Once we knew the angle iron would secure 2 cookie halves, we moved on to the 3 four-heart maple cookies.
Step 1, though, wasn't the angle iron but squaring off the semi straight lines in the center of the 2 halves. Our challenge here was how to cut a 3.5" thick slab. Ain't got no (woodworking term here!) saw in my little shop to do the job. To the rescue was a 16" circular saw rental from one of my go-to places - Rental Max. The saw is literally a beast but it cut the seams flawlessly. The adage about the right tool for the right job is spot on!
Go the 6 halves cut with the circular saw and then inset the angle iron in the 3 cookies like we did before.
Next was to try out a jig we just made specifically for this task. You can never have enough jigs! Its called a router sled and its used to flatten an uneven piece of wood which are def these maple 4-hearts. The routing with a flat bottom bit leaves ridges but these are "easily" sanded out.
The pics below show these different steps.
