Bluebonnets are starting to show up! Which means it's time for family photos! But as beautiful as they are there are some safety concerns with taking photos of the State flower.

When taking photos in Bluebonnets keep an eye out for rattlesnakes and bees. Give the area a good once over before getting in position for photos. Beware, not every rattlesnake will rattle.

For the safety of yourself and others, consider the following tips when stopping to take roadside photos in the Bluebonnets:

1) Do not stop on the highways for wildflower photos.

2) Signal before leaving or entering the roadway.

3) Park off the roadway (off of improved shoulders), parallel to the road in the direction of traffic.

4) Don’t cross lanes of traffic on foot to get to the flowers.

5) Obey signs that prohibit parking on a particular stretch of roadway.

Little known facts -

1) Contrary to popular belief, it is not illegal to pick Bluebonnets, unless you are on State Park property. Also, it is illegal to trespass onto someone's private property to take photos.

2) Bluebonnets can be potentially toxic to the nervous system if ingested by humans and animals.

I can personally say this is a great neighborhood as I lived there a few years ago!
