Students in Mrs. GW's Honors Biology class conducted an artificial transformation lab last week. ๐ฅฝ A harmless strain of E. coli bacteria was genetically engineered to pick up plasmid DNA that contained a gene for antibiotic resistance and one for green fluorescence. The bacteria was grown in petri dishes with a nutrient agar that contained ampicillin, an antibiotic. Bacteria that grew in the presence of the antibiotic and glowed green transformed successfully. ๐งซ

Chemistry classes recently completed the infamous Annual Rocket Car Project! ๐๐๐ It's a big project that begins with students learning about the reaction between vinegar and baking soda. ๐งช As their understanding of the reaction grows, they are tasked with building and testing cars powered by the reaction.
The project is wrapped up with a competition to see who can get their cars to move the farthest. Pictured are the winners of each class! ๐
These are beautiful! Ceramic students created and donated poppies to families of veterans during the Memorial Day Ceremony that took place here in Germantown. Some of the poppies were also placed in the field of flags at the Vietnam Memorial along the lakefront in Milwaukee. ๐บ๐บ๐ธ
Mr. Smith began his administrative career as our Dean/Academic and Career Program Coordinator, then was the top candidate of choice for the Assistant Principal position that became available with the departure of a veteran administrator in July of 2022. Mr. Smith hit the ground running taking on many new and complicated tasks within that role, while his ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff were evident from the beginning.
As I close out my tenure at GHS over the next month, I know all stakeholders are in very capable hands and he will bring a passion and skill set that will be of great benefit to the Germantown School District. Congratulations, Mr. Smith!
