It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Past Chief George N Hoover IV.
George passed this evening surrounded by his loving family and closest friends.
George was a pivotal cog in the workings of the Red Rock Vol Fire Co for 47 years holding all offices from Chief to President. His contributions were far reaching not only in this organization but also throughout Columbia County serving with the Fire Chiefs Association and Co- Captain of the HazMat Team as well as a long time social member of the Chatham Fire Company.
His many years of selfless contributions will leave a giant void in our organization, our community and our hearts.
We ask you keep his family in your thoughts. Arrangements will be announced on this page at a later date.

Saturday morning CC-1, 2 and 4 responded to support and assist the Kinderhook Taskforce. The volunteers did a great job quickly bringing the scene under control with limited damage.
On Thursday evening theFire Coordinator Office - Columbia County, NY, Chatham Fire Department and the Chatham Central School District hosted a region wide; local, county and state, emergency services table top and hands on exercise. Numerous response agencies participated including EMS, Fire, Hazmat, Police and government leaders.
The exercise drill was presented by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and their spill response unit.
A tabletop exercise involved a railroad transportation event in the area of the school. The event discussed a derailment with a possible spill. The Geographic Response plan developed by NYSDEC was exercised as well as all local plans in place by the Chatham Fire Department and The Chatham School District. During the drill there was a hands-on deployment of booms and underflow dams, as well as a review of spill control resource available.
Emergency situations involving hazardous materials often require a coordinated state, federal, and local response to ensure the protection of our environment and human health.
Today around the Village of Chatham, NY and the Chatham Central School District The DEC’s Spill Response Unit and Emergency crews will be conducting training and planning for a “Train derailment Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Exercise” with support and participation from several state and local partners.
The hands on and tabletop exercise is based on a hypothetical scenario that may involve partial derailment of a freight train in the Village near the school and waterways.
This will only be a drill. Please give our first responders room to work safely.
