West Ghent Volunteer Fire Company

On 7/15/24 we had drill practicing running the truck pumps, shuttling water, and using the portable pond all while filling a pool. Car 1, Car 2 along with 14 members.
On 7/16/24 today we responded to a two car AAPI on 9H and 22. Car 2 responded with 15 members, 57-20 and 57-70. Car 1 responded shortly after returning to the area.

Last night at approximately 9:35 PM, the West Ghent fire company was dispatched for a tree on fire due to a control burn at the intersection of Heather Lane and Route 66 Upon my arrival I found a treetop on fire. West Ghent car 2 and a Crew of 4 arrive shortly after with our first engine l. With an investigation of the area it was determine that we were not gonna be able to get to the fire. At this time I notified 911 to Dispatch stottville fire with 5055 (there tower truck) to assist us in reaching the fire. Upon stottville”s Arrival the fire was quickly extinguished We also extinguished the control burn . 5767 and 5770 close down Route 66 at the intersection of tipple road and 66 and at the intersection of Ostrander Road and Route 66. we responded with 14 members and four pieces of apparatus. A great job was done by all. And a big thank you to the Stottville fire company for your assistance. Thank you to all that responded.

West Ghent firefighters drilled on vehicle extrication tonight 6/3/24. Thank you to Burch's Towing for supplying the car and the space for our Drill.

West Ghent Car 1 and Car 2 and multiple other members responded today with 57-30 and 57-20 to assist Stottville Fire with a structure fire. Multiple departments were on scene and drafting water to assist.

Zumba Zumba Zumba

On Monday May 8th, 15 members drilled at 1st Fuel with 2 engines and the brush truck. Some members supplied water engine to engine and drafted from the pond. Other members continued to learn the pumps.

Tonight we would like to Congratulate 5 members for completing Fire Police school.

4/29/24 was Drill night, while numerous members attended Fire Police classes at the training center, 57-70 was taken to the class as one of the Fire Police vehicles used by numerous departments. Other members went to two different draft sites to clean the area of debris and learn more on Engine pump operation.

Today members had physicals at the firehouse. Proud to announce all that participated passed with flying colors.

4/22 Drill night. One set of Members worked together learning the pump system on one of the engines. A second crew was at another draft area doing the same. Great job done by all.

The West Ghent Fire Company held their weekly drill at the firehouse. The drill was cut into three parts. The drill was attended by 14 members.

The Chief Skip Kastner and 1st lieutenant, Dave Parlman, along with senior member, Charlie Seay took certain members and did an SCBA drill. Showing the new members the proper way of search and rescue.

The assisted Chief Jeff Johnson along with senior member Jim Cesternino took other members and showed them the equipment on the truck, and the proper way to set up the jaws of life.

The Captain Jeffrey Johnson did drivers training on two pieces of our apparatus with two members.

Monday night drill. 3/25/24.
Tonight was training on running and operating the engines for water supply.
Look like something you might like to do and learn. Volunteers are alway welcome to join. Stop by the station if someone is there or call and leave a message to arrange a pick up of a application.
No experience needed. Different levels of duties to meet multiple levels of ability. Active and social members both welcome.

Last night members responded to a call on George Rd. For a unattended burn that grew out of control. First on scene was car 2 followed by car 1. Engine 57-20 was called to scene, followed by 57-70 with more man power. The Captain, 1st and 2nd Lieutenants and 10 firefighters were able to respond for a total of 15 on scene. The fire was knocked down in about 40 minutes.

The NYSDEC has announced the dates for the annual statewide ban on residential brush burning in New York, effective from March 16 to May 14.

Putting multiple trucks to work tonight at drill. Training, learning and of course a fun filled night.
