This is a story about a day in the life of Mandy Robinson, a nurse in the intensive care unit of a prestigious California hospital and a widowed mother of a teenage son. She loves her job. Besides the challenge of saving lives, helping others in pain distracts her from the pain in her own life. Her patients for the day include an elderly Vietnam vet who has lost the will to live and a La Jolla aristocrat whose disastrous fate remains steeped in mysterious intrigue. A quality-of-life debate runs through the entire story and sparks a furious discussion about end-of-life issues and organ donation. It’s a story of life with comedic and serious insight into the everyday experiences of a bedside nurse.
