For this Paradise Valley home, our client was looking for a landscape that would elevate the home’s striking beauty, stay true to the desert surroundings, and provide privacy… without sacrificing the dramatic views of The Valley. 🌄

Large Ironwood trees in the front yard provide street front interest while screening any unwanted views into the home’s large windows. As we progress through the space, the landscape becomes more modern and linear, with agave lining the driveway and feature plantings to play off the elevation of the home. In the courtyard, the plantings become more lush and tropical on the dining side while remaining desert on the other, working with the natural sunlight occurring in the different sides while blending the courtyard with what is happening outside. Incorporated into the home’s front seating area is a large water feature, adding even more interest to the space with beautiful movement and tranquil sounds.

Fruit trees and planting beds in the side yard allow the opportunity for the homeowner to grow herbs and citrus on site, while the path to the backyard is lined with aloe planted along the side to add beauty while providing another useful plant to the area. At night, path lights help guide your way to the backyard space, while adding a sense of intrigue from the shadowplay off of the plants.

Meanwhile, the lower backyard is intended to feel concealed and secluded. The long and linear fireplace allows plenty of room to stay warm and cozy around the fire while keeping a low profile so as to not intrude on the view. Green and lush synthetic turf and flowering plantings to add color and beauty. As we ascend the stairs to the pool area the Lautner edge pool gives the space the sense that it is much larger than it is through its knife edge design which accentuates the space. Simple plantings surround the pool so as to not take away from the beauty of the pool itself, while glass railings make sure that no viewpoint in the backyard is obstructed as friends and family enjoy the sweeping views of the Valley.

Looking for the perfect blend of contemporary and classic, our client was looking for a lush, expansive backyard where the entire family could stay active, and enjoy the best of outdoor living in The Valley… in every season.

One of the focal points of this design is the natural stone fireplace, featuring an intricate herringbone pattern surrounding the flames to add contrast. The seating area is set to strike the perfect balance between being allowing space to be separated from the pool, while still being the perfect spot to watch kids as they play in the yard. The surrounding synthetic grass in this area offers flexibility and usability no matter the season. The property’s pool is elegant and timeless, featuring clean lines and a classic shape accompanied by a limestone deck with patterned inlays to maintain the subtle elegance of the overall aesthetic, while adding visual interest as the hardscape transitions across the yard.

Underneath the shade structure, the seating area offers flexible, intentional seating arrangements depending on the season—full shade for the summer, and diffused sunlight for The Valley’s colder months. The outdoor kitchen is large enough to house any and all equipment needed, while still providing plenty of prep and serving space. As we move through the space we come to the relaxation garden, a place where serene water sounds and a calm and peaceful setting provide the perfect spot to retreat to when feeling stressed.

Finally, the property’s sport court area is the embodiment of fun and entertainment. Opening to the sprawling live turf yard which offers ample room for any and all activities, this area features a full pickleball court, alongside of a new, purpose-built structure to house a golf simulator and game room. For this new, custom home in Somerset Gilbert, our client was looking for a cohesive landscape design which would accentuate the home’s architecture by blending the best parts traditional elegance with modern style.

Drawing inspiration from classic European design, the outdoor space utilizes bright, natural stonework throughout, in tandem with elevation changes to add visual interest and dimension. The property’s pool area was designed to feel like an extension of the home—the focal point of the backyard which invites you to move around and enjoy the space. The large baja shelf is perfect for summer lounging, while the fireside hot tub is the perfect way to relax during those chilly winter evenings. One of our favorite elements in this design are the custom poolside swings, perfectly placed between the soothing sounds of the scuppers and the pool’s waterfall.

One of the things we love most about this contemporary Gilbert front yard is how it showcases just how much of an impact lighting makes in your landscape design. Clean lines throughout the stonework and the hardscape work in tandem with the trees and plant life to create a stunning entryway and curb appeal. And in the evening, intentional lighting on the plants create dramatic shadows around the home, while the intentional uplighting on the trees create drama that draws the eye to the entryway. For this classic Arcadia home, we wanted to create order in the backyard, while paying homage to the home’s unique style. By using materials like exposed aggregate concrete and square pavers, we were able to create an open and inviting outdoor living space that simultaneously has texture and dimension, all while accenting the property’s 60’s aesthetic. Originally, the home had varying elevations; by reworking the hardscape, we were able to bring everything to the same level to eliminate the awkward elevation changes. Finally, for this design, we wanted to keep our lines simple and clean—not just through the hardscaping, but also through the sense of order created by the repeating plantings, the dramatic accents and shadows created with strategically placed lighting.
