Our place is by your side. At Gentiva Hospice, we are committed to being faithfully by the side of those in our communities who need our help.
Through physical, emotional and spiritual support, we help patients live with the dignity and grace they deserve - and families make the most of every moment.
It can be challenging to know when the right time is to consider care. As your partner in patient care, we are available to lead or participate in conversations about hospice with patients and their families. We can also help ease the anxiety of transitioning from curative treatment to comfort care once a patient is determined to be eligible for hospice care. To learn more about how we can help your patients, please call our 24/7 nurse line at 1-888-GENTIVA (1-888-436-8482).
August is National Wellness Month – and as we take care of those around us, it’s a good reminder to take care of ourselves along the way. That means finding more ways to manage stress and embrace a little more happiness in our lives. Experts recommend practicing mindfulness in our day to day, from meditation to exercise. And of course, don’t skimp on those three big pillars of wellness: hydration, fruits and veggies, and quality sleep.
This month, we’re highlighting the importance of developing a healthy vaccine routine that goes beyond the traditional flu shot. From tetanus and shingles to the COVID-19 booster, don’t forget to ask about immunizations at your next checkup!
For our hospice and home health patients, there’s a special kind of bond that forms between them and our incredible aides. What a labor of love our Chaplain Paul and his crew of volunteers did to help this very special family out with a major roof repair. With monsoon season quickly approaching, it was a mad dash to complete this project. Thank you so much to Paul and his team for going above and beyond to make sure this was done and done well! This family is forever grateful.

Our patient Kip had a blast viewing the eclipse!
When Kip mentioned to Chaplain Paul how much he loved and missed fishing, Paul jumped into action. He got him set up with a one-day fishing license, brought fishing gear from home, and arranged transportation with a local church friend to get him to the lake. They spent the day telling stories, laughing, and relaxing, and Kip even caught a twelve-inch trout! Thank you, Chaplain Paul, for making this wish a reality!
One of the biggest events of the year here at Gentiva Hospice is our Annual Celebration of Life. This is an evening where the loved ones of those who have passed away in the last year come together to share memories, laughter, and tears. Each year, it is an extraordinary event, and this year was no different. Thank you to all who were able to attend and celebrate these amazing people who will never be forgotten! A big thank you to Todd Woolgar for taking these wonderful photos.
A special thanks to Angela with Karen's Flowers in Mesa, who's been donating arrangements to our patients and families for quite some time! The shop is family owned and operated and has been in the valley since 1985. Angela is a gifted flower artist, and her arrangements bring such joy to everyone who receives them. She truly cares about her community and giving back!
We have had record-breaking heat here in Arizona, but our Pet Therapist team, Pam and Bella, have their pink shoes on and are ready to visit patients and families!!
When Gregory's grandchildren say they're coming to visit and they love dinosaurs, we put dinosaur sheets on the bed! Grandpa just got home from the hospital, and the family wanted to add some good cheer to the room. Boy, did it ever!
As a Level 5 participant in the national We Honor Veterans program, we are privileged to honor our community members who have served in the Armed Forces. Cynthia served in the United States Navy in the 1950s as an administrative officer. In an emotional pinning ceremony, surrounded by family and staff, we thanked her for her service by presenting her with a Navy hat dressed with several lapel pins and a certificate. Our very own Jarrett Young (Marines) presented these items and saluted her.
Last Friday, we held a Veteran Pinning Ceremony at Friendship Village Health Center. Our staff and Color Guard recognized and honored 30 veteran residents and staff members with pinned hats and certificates. We also presented folded American flags to 7 spouses of veterans who have passed away. The facility was covered head-to-toe in patriotic decorations. They even set up a Fallen Comrade Table to honor and remember those servicemen missing in action or prisoners of war. We are so thankful to work alongside facilities that share our commitment to acknowledge, honor, and serve our military men and women.
