The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention has condemned the 's decision to name Azerbaijan as the host of COP29 Azerbaijan, given the country's genocidal strategies in Nagorno-Karabakh and wrongful imprisonment of Armenians.
If COP29 Azerbaijan in Azerbaijan goes ahead it would be undermining UNFCCC principles and normalise human rights violations on the world stage.
We urge the UN to rescind Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29 and find an alternative venue that can uphold the values of genocide prevention, human rights, and the UN's legitimacy as a body representing the people of the world.

Ex-Karabakh official held by Azerbaijan was tortured in custody, lawyers say The legal team for a former top official in the ethnic Armenian administration of Nagorno-Karabakh has alleged in a letter to a U.N. official that the politician has been tortured while in custody in Azerbaijan.
While all eyes have been on Rafah, Netanyahu's buddy Ilham Aliyev, the sham-elected petro-dictator of Azerbaijan, strikes sovereign Armenia on Tuesday February 13th, killing four soldiers.
This attack within the Armenian province of Syunik, which Aliyev has been gunning for with his “Zangezur Corridor” across its borders, may be a precursor to a full-scale invasion of Armenia. Because of the international community’s failure to punish Azerbaijan for its ethnic cleansing of 100,000 Artsakh Armenians in September 2023, Aliyev has been given a green light to launch further attacks on Armenia itself. The timing is no coincidence, just a couple of days after Israel’s attack on Rafah, with global attention centered on the brutally dire situation for Palestinian civilians. And just a week after Azerbaijan’s presidential elections that saw the repression of journalists and vast irregularities reported by international observers, it’s not difficult to surmise this attack was meant to distract Azerbaijani civilians from their lack of voting rights and human rights.
Contact your elected officials immediately and request the following urgent actions: 1) Unequivocal condemnation of Azerbaijan by all, especially by the US Congress, the Biden administration, and the UN Security Council, 2) Immediate enforcement of sanctions on Azerbaijan, 3) Divestment of US entities from all holdings in Azerbaijani interests.

After Azerbaijani soldiers r***d, beheaded, and burned the indigenous of Artsakh, including children, their supporters appeal to the victims to stay and not “expelled themselfs.”
When the world doesn’t care and no help is forthcoming, what else can the indigenous do, but “expelled themselfs?”
After a ten months long blockade, on September 19th Azerbaijan’s military launched a brutal shelling of Nagorno Karabakh.
My heart breaks as I learn about the stories of trauma, loss, and severe violations of human rights of thousands of Armenian families who are being forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh and flee for Armenia in a mass exodus.
The situation that people in Nagorno-Karabakh are suffering right now, brings memories from History’s darkest hours. We often look back to those dark pages of indiscriminate killings, ethnic cleansing and concentration camps with remorse, and regret that no one did enough to stop it. We cannot bring back the victims from those past atrocities, but we are still in time to prevent genocide from unfolding in the Nagorno-Karabakh.
In the midst of this horror, we need immediate mobilization of emergency humanitarian aid through the Lachin Corridor and the deployment of international monitoring missions to put a stop to these crimes against humanity.
It is now urgent for international leaders to stand up against ethnic cleansing and use all possible political tools to put an end to military actions in the region.
Children have the right to live in peace in their homeland.

Article IIc of the 1948 UN Convention on Genocide includes this definition:
“Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.” https://www.un.org/.../Doc.1_Convention%20on%20the...
Choking off the one treaty-mandated corridor between Armenia and Artsakh to bring the local Armenian population to the brink of starvation fits that definition.
And for all who have ardently cried out in the past, “Never Again,” please note that an ethnic cleansing is now in progress. Raise your voices NOW to your governments, to guarantee the safety of Armenians in transit as well as those who will remain in their historic homelands.
Nagorno-Karabakh's Armenians start to leave en masse for Armenia The Nagorno-Karabakh leadership said the region's 120,000 Armenians did not want to live as part of Azerbaijan for fear of persecution and ethnic cleansing. Those with fuel started to drive down the Lachin corridor.

A brief history of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh)
Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) is an integral part of historic Armenian Kingdom .During the Urartian era (9-6th cc. B.C.) Artsakh was known as Urtekhe-Urtekhini. As a part of Armenia Artsakh is mentioned in the works of Strabo, Pliny the Elder, Claudius Ptolemy, Plutarch, Dio Cassius, and other ancient authors. The evident testimony of it is the remained rich historic-cultural heritage.
After the division of Greater Armenia (387 A.D.), Artsakh became part of the Eastern Armenian kingdom, which soon fell under the Persian rule. At that time, Artsakh was a part of the Armenian marzpanutyun (province), then, in the period of Arabic rule, it was part of Armenia kusakalutyun (region). Artsakh was part of the Armenian kingdom of Bagratids (9-11th cc.), then – part of Zakarid Armenia (12-13th cc.).
Armenian culture and civilization flourished in the early medieval Nagorno-Karabakh. In the 5th century, the first-ever Armenian school was opened on the territory of modern Nagorno-Karabakh—at the Amaras Monastery. In 1923 Nagorno-Karabakh became artificially annexed to Azerbaijan by Stalin. Stalin gave away Nakhichevan to Azerbaijani SSR, although the area had always been regarded as an Armenian province. In this process the province's historical past, its ethnic composition, the will of its people, or economic interests were not taken into consideration. Armenian schools, churches and monasteries were closed while TV and radio transmissions from Yerevan were banned. In 1990s was liberated by Armenian Army.
In 2020 Azerbaijan occupied a large part of Artsakh. People of Artsakh are in danger due to aggressive policy of Azerbaijan.

Both young and old are severely impacted by the cruel and illegal 7-month blockade of the Armenian Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh).
Here, a little girl is seen protesting at yesterday's popular rally in Stepanakert, Artsakh's capital, launching a new wave of protests which aim to end the Azerbaijani blockade. Azerbaijan has prevented the entry of food products, medication, basic necessities, and gas and electricity imports from Armenia. The blockade has already claimed several lives, including the lives of two young children.
Artsakh has limited agricultural capacity and has been enduring ever-worsening shortages since last December when Azerbaijan imposed the blockade, first as a "protest" by fake environmentalists. The staged protests later mutated into an illegal border checkpoint that continued to severely restrict the free movement of Artsakh Armenians, save for International Red Cross vehicles that are occasionally seen transporting the seriously ill.
Artsakh, which was known as "Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Oblast" during the Soviet period, gained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 when it passed a legal referendum in accordance with international and Soviet laws in effect at the time.
Azerbaijan, the outcome of a Soviet gerrymandering project dating from the Stalin era to keep non-Russian ethnicities in check, violently laid claim to the small nation on the basis of "territorial integrity." Yet, never in history had Artsakh been a part of Azerbaijan, which became independent for the first time in 1992, several months after Artsakh's independence.

“From a teacher’s perspective, it is incredibly challenging to educate children in Artsakh about basic human rights and fundamental freedoms when the international community seems to turn a blind eye to the violations happening in their region. As educators, we strive to instill in our students a sense of justice, equality, and the importance of standing up for their rights. However, the ongoing blockade of Artsakh creates an environment of frustration and helplessness.”

Thousands of besieged indigenous Armenians of Artsakh, Nagorno Karabakh, have gathered in Stepanakert to launch an indefinite popular movement for the future of Artsakh. They are threatened with at the hands of the dictatorship of Azerbaijan that has demonstrated in multiple ways its intent to exterminate 120,000 Armenians, including 30,000 children.
The corrupt president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, aims for a land grab…for an “Artsakh without Armenians.” His government has imposed a devastating and cruel 7-month, ongoing blockade against Artsakh, a fledgling nation with a 30-year history as a democracy, and millennia-long history as an indigenous Armenian land.
“Our internal resources will soon be exhausted and a real tragedy will begin. We will soon begin to collect the bodies of those who died of hunger and cold. We cannot continue like this,” announced Artsakh’s State Minister, Gurgen Nersisyan.
In its long history, Artsakh has never been a part of an independent, internationally recognized Azerbaijan. (Azerbaijan only received international recognition in 1992, after Artsakh had already secured its own independence from Moscow following the collapse of the Soviet Union in which Artsakh had held the status of a distinct autonomous “oblast.”)
Aggression by oil-rich, 10-million strong Azerbaijan against 120,000 indigenous of Artsakh is a daily occurrence in the form:
-Shelling of villagers trying to grow food in their agricultural fields;
-Unprovoked, terror attacks on self-defense units whose aim is to protect families and civilians;
-Centrally diffused extreme anti-Armenian hate speech and dehumanization efforts;
-Destruction of Armenian holy and cultural sites; and
-Disregard for international legal documents and international court decisions that obligate Azerbaijan to respect the human rights of Artsakh Armenians and ensure their survival, and to lift the blockade of the Lachin Corridor that links Artsakh with neighboring Armenia.
Azerbaijan has been building up its military alliances and investing heavily in its military since 1994 to capture independence-loving Artsakh. Thousands have died, hundreds of thousands have become refugees, and cities and towns have been devastated as a result of more than 30 years of Azerbaijani aggression that continues to force the indigenous population of Artsakh into taking self-defense measures as best as it can.
