Things are starting to bloom! Despite pounding rains, cold nights, high winds...beauty will not be deterred! These clivia are among the first!
Long a two-cat household, here's Monkey who visited us recently and stayed, and sleeps in the barn on an old chaise lounge laden with blankets for the cold nights, and a view out the ajar barn door at the lemon tree, birds, and oncoming springtime. Older orange neutered male Golden Boy, love of my life, does not like him, but is adjusting via intimidating Monkey. I hear them outside when G-Boy gives him a short screech, but he gets lots of rubs and chats from me, so I look forward to improved feline relations. I believe Monkey, whom I flea-meds dosed already, is neutered, too, and is much younger than G-Boy. That white-rooted black fur is amazing! A plus: he's into dry food only, so G-Boy can monopolize the Fancy Feast Pate! One less expense. At some point Monkey can "indoors" with us, has already tripped in and out of the office for a look. The photo does him a disservice; he's really beautiful. Remember the old Lanvin "My Sin" black cat Sixties ads and packaging?🐈⬛
We're celebrating Tony De Luz's first sale at Blue Rain Gallery, Santa Fe, from that gallery's new collection of the artist's Americana fine art portfolio! This is entitled "Higher Ground" and was created earlier this year at the Grand Canyon in the last rays of sunset light! Stay tuned! ©Tony De Luz - Higher Ground - 2023.
https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2023-09-08/steve-roden-obituary-artist-los-angeles "Roden’s final solo exhibition at Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles, the gallery where he showed regularly for nearly 20 years, was mounted in the summer of 2019. During the subsequent pandemic, he continued to work privately in his studio. Earlier examples of his distinctive aesthetic were featured in recent group exhibitions in California and Europe, including 'Audiosphere: Sound Experimentation 1980-2020,' a major survey of contemporary sound art at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid. Roden’s work is scheduled for inclusion in next year’s 'Energy Fields: Vibrations of the Pacific' at Chapman University, part of the Getty Foundation’s upcoming Pacific Standard Time initiative exploring intersections between art and science. He was the subject of a 2010 midcareer retrospective at the Pasadena Armory Center for the Arts, and his work is in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art and the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens, Greece."--Christopher Knight, Art Critic.

https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2023-09-06/super-evil-genius-inspires-wicked-creativity-by-revamping-marketing-firm-culture Great story that, as unique as SEG is, resonates with our positive project experience with MSCHF in New York, for whom Tony De Luz created the two views of the yellow Lamborghini for MSCHF Product Studio, Inc., for toy packaging tied in with Mr. Beast, a popular YouTube philanthropist/influencer...Go, go Super Evil Genius team in Long Beach, remaking media culture!
Super Evil Genius inspires wicked creativity by revamping marketing firm culture The Long Beach-based firm founded by Ryan Jaso and Colby Reis is making a name for itself in the music, cannabis and alcohol marketing space.
Our thanks to a repeat-client and major SoCal agency/design firm handling, quite excellently, a range of real estate developments, resorts and and resort communities, and multi-use recreational and residential projects from initial marketing stages to completion and sales, in CA, FL, UT, the East Coast, and Mexico, Costa Rica, and beyond, much which offer seasonal outdoor fun and pro amenities such as skiing, snowboarding, golf, tennis, pickle-ball, swimming, and trail sports. This project is sited near FL's Gulf Coast and with amendments and enhancements, requiring our team's organizational management and advanced illustration and technical skills, and the agency's creative direction and clarity, was created during most of the first quarter of 2023. The collective inspiration and sense(s) of humor didn't slow anybody down either--including our Tony De Luz!

Excited about this! Loved the first one that showcased my contemporaries! "(The Getty) announced a commitment to presenting Pacific Standard Time every five years and is tweaking the initiative’s name to “PST Art.” The next iteration is titled: “PST Art: Art & Science Collide...The Jet Propulsion Laboratory will present artworks at Brand Library & Art Center (Glendale) that ponder how a new understanding of the cosmos could shape relationships between humans and robots...The inaugural Pacific Standard Time, in 2011-12, explored the SoCal art scene from 1945-1980; the second one, in 2017-18, covered Latin American and Latino art in dialogue with L.A. The Getty’s overall grant investment for those initiatives was $11.4 million and $16.3 million, respectively...eight themes that the many exhibitions fall into...'Ecology and Environmental Justice,' 'Technologies of Seeing and Control,' 'The Body: Site, Image, Possibility,' 'Picturing Science' and 'The Skies and the Cosmos.'”
Getty invests more than $17 million in 2024's art and science-themed Pacific Standard Time On May 9, the Getty announced the next edition of Pacific Standard Time, as well as a rebrand and project updates. The SoCal-wide multidisciplinary arts initiative, debuting in September 2024, will blend art and science.

New and blue! Tony De Luz, keen on the early giants in rock 'n' roll ("When I was a child growing up in the Roxbury section of Boston")--especially if they both sang and danced--captured Jackie Wilson in this digital painting with "a monochromatic look that almost echoes the black and white performances I saw on TV growing up on the Ed Sullivan Show, Shindig and shows like that, with that exciting pop of his face and hands, standing in complementary contrast to the periwinkle blue background". De Luz ran the lyrics to Wilson's hit "Baby Workout" on the stage curtain, and the art was energized by "the electricity of a Jackie Wilson performance from the early 60’s, when he was still at his peak, musically and physically (the man was an incredible dancer– Michael Jackson and James Brown were quite obviously influenced by Jackie)". ©Tony De Luz 2022 JackieWilsonInBlue.
"Born in Newark, N.J., in 1945, Kruger went to art school only briefly, gaining most of her media education through a combination of hands-on experience and independent curiosity. She read widely while working in New York as a graphic designer and picture editor for commercial magazines, including Mademoiselle and House & Garden...In the late 1970s, she began to incorporate techniques of abstraction and typographic eccentricity pioneered by Alexander Rodchenko, Varvara Stepanova and others of the early 20th century Russian avant-garde...Kruger, however, avoids such oppositional positions. Instead, she drew on Pop, Minimalist and Conceptual art of the immediately preceding generation to understand and question, in her words, 'the systems that contain us.'” Show's on thru July 17.

"The Room of One’s Own artist-in-residency program was created for female artists who live and work in L.A. City Council District 9...In the mid-1990s, Olabisi’s most noted mural became a point of contention among power brokers and collective stakeholders in Los Angeles. 'To Protect and Serve' was one of the first murals to address the history of police brutality...L.A. artist Dominique Moody was one of Olabisi’s numerous collaborators over the years. She remembered Olabisi by her most recent artistic output from the Room of One’s Own residency. Moody recalled that Olabisi spoke of transitioning from walls to canvas, shifting into the intimate where she could focus on her pain, her story." She was 67
COVER SHOT: Who wants a yellow Lamborghini Aventador? When does a super-rush global game packaging and web site project for edgy Brooklyn branding firm MSCHF Product Studio, Inc. turn into a “we can get more time, take this to the hilt" project? Midsummer 2021, by MSCHF who saw De Luz's vehicle art at Workbook, and emailed, “it looks like a great fit”. For the model race car tie-in with hugely-popular YouTube entrepreneur, influencer, and philanthropist “MrBeast” the agency ran the line “MSCHF x MrBeast - Everyone Gets a Car” on packaging to contain both small and large models.
With an excruciating deadline to produce two views of the exotic yellow Lamborghini Aventador, the artist made deadline admirably and usefully. However, the client intuited that De Luz could hypercharge the gorgeous Italian car beyond their wildest dreams--if they could carve out more time. De Luz embraced the chance to enhance times ten and refine the art featuring a vehicle he’d always wanted to paint meticulously--and artwork that MSCHF lusted for.

Not long after moving to LA to boost the graphics repping career and enjoy SoCal over San Fran, Leavin's name was heard and her brilliance expanded to the point that she rose as a giant in the world of fine art, gallery operation, integrity, and as a great friend of, and advocate and adviser to, a peerless and stellar artist cadre...we remain in awe of her and her legacy.

Neon! And Glendale's downtown Museum of Neon Art has a new executive director, Corrie Siegel, who held a great Webinar tonight for members of The Glendale Historical Society. Her POV is special because it considers the museum professional's concern for not only preservation and restoration, but the historic and current implications of neon signage's existance culturally, demographically, racially, and in terms of retail business, local laws (then and now)...eager to visit this gem adjacent to The Americana (which also has neon)...and glad I was one of the first visitors and supporters of MONA back in the day when it's first site was in downtown L A managed by Lily Lakich and displayed both historic/saved neon signage as well as new creations by neon artists--who continue to learn and create at Glendale's MONA classes!
And...can't avoid posting a few of the many Americana paintings and digital art by our graphic designer/illustrator Tony De Luz of his passion, roadside and entertainment neon. ©Tony De Luz 2021 Old Vegas Motel, TBird Classic, Carnival Ride Zipper, Glitter Gulch.
