Harold Lloyd’s Safety Last! saw its fair share of praise when it was released, but the major accolades would come much, much later.
The Library of Congress added Safety Last! to the National Film Registry in 1994, and Los Angeles’ own American Film Institute included the film in more than one of its “100 Years…” lists in 1998 and 2007. With a current 97% on review site Rotten Tomatoes, even user reviews point out what a classic Safety Last! is.
Don’t miss our *free* screening of Harold Lloyd's SAFETY LAST!, on the lawn of the Doctors' House Museum and Gazebo in Brand Park, Glendale, California, on Sunday, October 22nd at 6:00 p.m. Live music will be provided by Cliff Retallick, and there will be a special guest introduction by Suzanne Lloyd, granddaughter of star Harold Lloyd, in person!

Surprisingly, not every contemporary review of Safety Last! was a rave. Time commented in 1923, “Harold Lloyd is one of the very few who can be laughed at in the same breath as the mighty Chaplin. So it is annoying to have him spoil it by falling back on a succession of cheap spectacularisms...” Ironically, Time used this iconic image for their own cover photo 67 years later, in 1990.

Sad news ...
She did it all: TV, movies, Broadway and more!
Suzanne Somers died peacefully today surrounded by family, just one day before her 77th birthday.
Her publicist says she survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for 23 years.
Suzanne first got attention on the big screen in 1973's "American Graffiti" but a role on the hit sitcom, "Three's Company," made her a television superstar in 1977.
She would go on to star in two other TV comedies: "She's The Sheriff" and "Step By Step." The latter ran for eight seasons.
In the show biz world, she was best known for her work on television but Suzanne also appeared in "Bullitt" with Steve McQueen and "Magnum Force" with Clint Eastwood. She even appeared on Broadway in a one-woman show.
She gained a whole other kind of fame (and fortune) with the ThighMaster. She got involved with the health and beauty industry. Suzanne wrote more than two dozen books. She even hosted a talk show.
I had fun interviewing her for several weeks back in 2015 when she gave "Dancing With The Stars" a go. I remember her as a voice of positivity. She made people happy. She made people smile. And that's something she was able to do for some 50 years.
May she R.I.P.
NEW RESCHEDULED DATE AND TIME! SUNDAY OCTOBER 22 6pm!!!
A fantastic actress. We were honored to interview Piper at the TCM Classic Film Fest last year! RIP❤️
TCM is saddened to hear of the loss of the formidable Piper Laurie.
An Emmy winner and Oscar nominee, she gave full-blooded performances as flawed, often ferocious women, in films such as THE HUSTLER and CARRIE.
The Hollywood Reporter remembers her here: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/piper-laurie-dead-twin-peaks-hustler-carrie-1235618677/

ON THE SET… UNCLE CHARLIE LAYING DOWN THE LAW!
Uncle Charlie’s character on “MY THREE SONS” was kind of gruff. In real life, William Demarest was pretty laid back and soft spoken. Bill always had great stories from all the amazing feature films he appeared in over the decades. He worked with Fred MacMurray on many films prior to “MY THREE SONS”. Fred and Bill loved the game of golf and often teed off together

🚨URGENT!🚨 Hollywood's iconic "blonde bombshell" Marilyn Monroe left us way too soon, and now her house where she lived—and died in 1962—may also be lost **if we don't act quickly.** Owners have filed plans to build a new house on the site of Monroe's 1929 Spanish, hacienda-style home in Brentwood, and it appears clearance for a demolition permit may already be in place. Identified in 2013 by the City's SurveyLA program as being potentially historic, the house is currently unprotected.
While we are definitely in the 11th hour, please reach out to Councilmember Councilwoman Traci Park ([email protected] and 213-473-7011) and ask her to *immediately* initiate the Historic-Cultural Monument (HCM) process for Monroe's house at 12305 5th Helena Drive!
If not too late and successful, this could allow the City and residents to consider if Monroe's house should be protected, spared from demolition, and ultimately designated as an HCM. This action can still allow owners to update and even expand the house if desired but ensure its essential character, and Monroe's association, is maintained.
