July is Disability Pride Month
Honoring the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community.
Why July? It marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, landmark legislation that broke down barriers to inclusion in society in 1990.
This 2021 Disability Pride flag was created by Ann Magill.
The parallel stripes joined together are a visual representation of
intra communal solidarity amongst disabled people.
The black background mourns disabled people who have died due to negligence, su***de, rebellion, illness and eugenics.
Each stripe color represents the various categories of disability:
Red - Physical disabilities.
Gold/Yellow - Cognitive and intellectual disabilities.
White - Non visible and undiagnosed disabilities.
Blue - Psychiatric disabilities.
Green - Sensory disabilities.
There will be a mobile food pantry at Citrus College on Monday, July 1, from 1-3 p.m. near the Campus Mall (between the Hayden Memorial Library at Citrus College and the CI Building). Please bring your own bags to carry items.
This program supports students who are experiencing food insecurity. Everyone is welcome, and we ask that you help spread the word!
