ER visits to Albany Med are some of longest in the country 07/07/2024

The bad news: Wait times for the ER in our area are some of the longest in the country.

The Good News: Adirondack Pediatrics is open 363 days of the year (closed on Thanksgiving day and Christmas day). We have same day sick appointments available during the week and AM urgent care hours on weekends/most holidays.

You can always call us first if you're not sure if your child's condition needs us or the ER! There is an on call doctor to speak to 365/24/7 to get advice on where to go or how long it can wait.

ER visits to Albany Med are some of longest in the country Emergency room visits to hospitals in New York are growing longer on average. Albany Medical Center, St. Joseph's, Ellis and St. Peter's Hospitals have the longest ER visits in the state.

Washington County Public Health will hold a Free Car Seat Check at Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday June 26th from 2:00pm-5:30pm.

Keeping children safe when riding in the car is a priority for parents and caregivers. But it’s not an easy task to find the right car seat. After all, there are several types of seats—from infant to convertible and booster—depending on your child’s age, size and developmental level. Even after you find the right one, it’s important to know how to install your car seat correctly and when to transition your child to another type of seat as your child grows older. Many parents and caregivers assume they know how to choose and use the correct child restraints for their children, but these restraints are frequently used incorrectly.

You can have your seat checked by a certified car seat technician at the FREE car seat check at the Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department, 50 Gilbert Street, Cambridge NY 12816 on Wednesday, June 26th from 2:00pm-5:30pm.

Certified car seat technicians will be on hand to check car seats for proper fit, use, possible recall and to help parents and caregivers on how to use the seat right. If a car seat is found to be unsafe, a limited number of car seats may be available for a donation.

The car seat check is sponsored by New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, Washington County Public Health, and the Cambridge NY Fire Department

For more information, contact Elizabeth St. John, Washington County Public Health, at 746-2400 x3478.

Key points:
Prevent insect bites by using insect repellent with DEET, proper clothing when outside at night or in heavily wooded areas, mosquito nets if sleeping outdoors
Treatment: cool compresses, topical calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream, oral antihistamines.

How to prevent and treat bug bites Although warm, spring weather means more time outdoors, it also means more bugs – like bees, ticks, and mosquitoes. To help prevent and treat bug bites, foll...

There’s a reason that preventing illness in certain circumstances is extremely important. Understanding why we have vaccines for specific diseases is shared below.

Remember, vaccinations do not mean your child will never be ill. It does mean, that when they are exposed to specific diseases, they will be protected against the complications that can endanger their life and wellbeing.

Photos from Family YMCA of the Glens Falls Area's post 04/26/2024

Camp is a great way to maintain a healthy routine during the summer. Getting outside, engaging with others, learning new things and staying physically active has positive effects for both physical and mental health.
